If you could find the glass cylinders with the rounded tops and wood bases, you could have a VERY cool display in which each figure is 'trapped' beneath a specimen glass in the vein of Victorian science displays. A neat juxtaposition. And if there are any you can 'pin' like a butterfly...

don't have a clue about couches but i bought a wire frame storage shelf/rack from costco and it is MUCH better made than the IKEA version for about the same price. And Home Depot didn't keep their version well stocked and it's only available in a much smaller size.

But i can't say I approve of the couch. It's rather unattractive in my opinion.

I actually like the lit pic of the lamp a bit. The unlit version makes me think of andy wharhol. Not something he painted, but his hair rather.

Thanks for the post, it put a smile on my face.

N.B.: Restoration Hardware jacks up the "original price" of their items before applying the "25%" discount. If you balk and ask for the 25% to be applied to the price they had a month ago, you should be able to get it. e.g. -Counterpoise lamp last month was $729 but their new "original price" is $799.

I wonder if you could DIY sheets like that. Dump the text into Adobe Illustrator or some such (you choose the text and font!) and save as a PDF or some such. Then find sheets you love in plain white and see if you can't run those through a giclee printer. In a major metropolitan area, you should be able to find some source for such a printer at a reasonable price. The trick will be finding inks that will stand up to the rigors of washing. The printers will take paper to canvas, so sheets will be no problem. Let's see them if you do this. cheers!

Authenticity isn't a trend. It would look different everywhere and it's not a trend if you can't recognize it when you see it.

It's also not a trend if it's a quality everyone would aspire to, whether they get there or not. i.e.- attractiveness is not a fashion trend.

And who wouldn't want to express their own personality in their design (even if they think their personal style IS the ikea catalog)?

WSJ headlines this article as Rough Luxe, the page also has a link to their new trend in fashion 'Elegant Slumming'. Maybe the new trend in headlines is oxymoron.

It isn't a trend if you can't recognize it where you find it without being told what it is. And since 'authenticity' will look different everywhere, that should be impossible.

And if it's a quality everyone would aspire toward whether they hit it or not, then it isn't a trend either. For instance, attractive is not a fashion trend.

And who doesn't want to reflect their personality in the design of their spaces? (Though some people think their personality IS the ikea catalog)

Ugh, someone had too many column inches assigned to them.

Ha, for some people a stove is not a source of heat but just a design feature that comes with a kitchen. It's possible the photos are fine where they are because the owner never turns the dials on that metal box beneath them.

Sally305, no need to stress - it's not a picture of a woman hanging art, it's a picture of a woman straightening the art that was already hanging on the wall. Rorschak it baby and find the interpretation that won't cause an aneurysm. :-)

Dear. Lord.

OK, so that first room should be shot into orbit on a trajectory with a black hole. Going from bottom to top: zebra stripes with vertical converging longitude lines in the cushions with oversize paisley in the couch with a painting with vertical stalks with leaves in silhouette and great colorful spots all in front of a bookshelf grid with books stacked haphazardly in both the vertical and horizontal. Also, the room can't decide whether it is in b&w or technicolor. My eyes, my poor eyes.

Noooooo. Don't paint it white, leave it as is. However, paint schemes are easy to test. Take a photo of the piece in the room and then photoshop it.
