When I moved into my apartment, I had no idea how long I'd be staying, so I tried to spend the least amount possible (thrifted furniture, no painting or changing fixtures). Now I've been there over a year and a half, and it looks like I'll be staying, but now I have no desire to make any big changes! My lamps, rugs, and curtains all set a really nice mood to the place, & now I don't have any worries about moving out, when it's time. Glad to know I've saved money and can buy new things when I move into a more permanent space.

I'd recommend taking your decorating process slowly, and you may find that you can enjoy your space without having to put more work into it.

Switching to greener shampoos usually involves some adjustment time for your scalp, sometimes even up to a month. Your scalp is used to over-producing oils after the shampoo strips them out, so it needs to learn it doesn't have to do that anymore.

Brushing your hair with a natural-bristle brush such as boar hair or wood helps distribute the oil throughout your hair to help transition.

Also, I've found that it's difficult to use natural products if your city has hard water. Seems like the extra chemicals are necessary to cut through the hardness.

Last year, my boyfriend and I took bowling lessons for his birthday and had a great time. Glass blowing is an even better idea! Definitely going to start planning that for the next birthday!

I want to vouch for San Diego as a great place for urban gardening too! We have year-round growing season, and there are real-life farms within the city limits that you can visit. There are also some great community programs to join:

I've really struggled with any green hair care since moving somewhere with hard water. No 'poo, bar shampoo, and SLS-free shampoos do not play well with hard water =( Lately I've only been washing my hair every 3 days so I'm not using so much of the bad stuff. Ideally, I'd like to get a showerhead water softener so I can use the good stuff.

My next door neighbor plays some sort of first-person-shooter video game at 6:30 IN THE MORNING. The volume is turned up, and he screams profanities while playing! I have no idea what to do about it; he scares me, and I've never actually seen him (just hear him yelling all the time). The worst part is that we don't even live in the same building, so it's not like I can talk to a landlord or anything like that.

One of these days I'm just going to have to get some courage to talk to this guy and ask him to be a little quieter in the mornings... it's a freaky way to be awoken, and it's already happened 3 times this week!

Agreed that this product isn't adding enough value.

At SXSW a couple of years ago, AT&T (I think) had a charging station that was a bunch of mini-lockers with outlets in them. That way, you were paying to use the locker and walk away from your phone safely while it was charging.

I've always liked knowing that my mom named me after her favorite book, "Christy" by Catherine Marshall. Hopefully I'll be able to find an equally meaningful name for my children someday!

I was too afraid to attempt to paint my Expedit, so I bought an extreme amount of contact paper and covered each piece with contact paper before putting together. It took forever, but I was really happy with how it turned out!

It's a cute idea. I'd like it even more if they were reusing old cassette tapes! I'm sure there are plenty of them out there...!

I really like working from home, but I wish I had the option of going into an office every once in awhile to see team members, interact with people, etc.

Also, I think if you're used to working in an office, working from home (initially) feels more productive, and vice-versa. Now that I work from home all the time, I would probably initially feel more productive in an office.. it's where ever you've "settled" that you'll probably feel less productive.

I've been looking for coworking events and cafes to help break up the pattern!

I keep my internet browsing separate by using Firefox for work things, and Safari for play things. That way, I can open links and things I want to look at later in Safari and keep them minimized until it's time to take a break.

STH: to deal with static, throw 2-3 balls of foil in your dryer with your clothing. always does the trick for me, and you can keep reusing them!
