Every person has their own individual tolerance level for this sort of thing. I grew up loving practical jokes like this - on both sides of the equation - but I know plenty of people who don't appreciate it.

As long as the joker respects boundaries (the yard sale idea goes past mine), and they come from a place of love - a memorable shared laugh - I don't see the harm in different colored milk or meatloaf cupcakes or a juice glass with Jell-o. I wouldn't mind the 5 minutes of cleaning up a sink or doorknob if it made someone smile.

The "model parent" is pretty inspired - makes me wish I read the paper.

How people react to these office photos and house tours says a lot about their personalities. Some people view them for inspiration, others for interesting small windows into strangers' lives and others view it as a way to judge and criticize.

If you look at the rooms on this site and your thoughts are "so trendy" or "very propped" or "too curated" . . . this sounds more like a you problem than a problem with the room.

The first thing that came to my mind reading this was Urban Outfitters/H&M and their habit of knocking off talented designers and selling to the masses. It's awful and they deserve every bit of scorn they've received.

But it works the other way, too. The people selling knockoff Eames chairs aren't Robin Hood - they're profiteers.

My little girl is nuts for the Skip Hop stacking ducks - she actually loves getting her hair and face washed now. So, best bath toy ever as far as I'm concerned.

Do you have kids? That might change your perspective on Facetime.

I was able to Facetime my parents right after my daughter was born so they could see her face all the way across the country. It was an incredible, wonderful, unforgettable moment. And we continue to Facetime every few days so they can see her grow up. It truly lives up to the hype in my eyes.

The rest, though? Totally agree.

I would be careful about these programs. My wife and I used one that we discovered was also sending the documents to another email address. It led to a fun experience with identity theft.

It was Genius Scan, by the way.

I love ToDo. It's been my personal to-do list for r about a year now.

It doesn't do all the things I need professionally, however, so I use OmniFocus for work.

I was a Things user for a while, but I didn't love it.

This is a nice post, but "Tails are for pulling and backs are for riding on... that's just how it goes" is not only bad advice, it's dangerous.

Pets are animals - not humans who can be told "it was all in fun" or "he didn't mean anything by it" - if they are threatened or injured, they may react accordingly. It's buck-passing parental narcissism to think only the pet owner should bear the responsibility of this interaction.

Totally not offensive, though.

I think this is great. Not for me, necessarily, but great.

I recently visited Hong Kong and ordered a 7-Up with "salty lemon" . . . it was delicious and completely cleared up the mild sore throat I had (I had unknowingly ordered a home remedy) . . . can't wait to try this out now that our lemon tree is heavy with fruit!

When we moved into our new home, we kept the TV out of the bedroom . . . but 9 months later, we've decided to bring it back for two reasons: 1) Sick days 2) Laundry is unbelievably tedious w/o a little TV going on.

I am actually sick today. After going to the Dr., I swung by the store to pick up my usual - Gatorade and croissants. My wife is picking up my usual sick dinner - a reuben on rye and kreplach.

Seems to be a natural pendulum-swing-reaction to the MCM-inspired minimalism. It will be interesting (and amusing) to see Pottery Barn et. al attempt to harness an "authenticity" movement, but what can I say? I like this look better, so I won't complain about that stuff.

The pendulum will swing the other way in a few years and we'll be inundated with more photos of all-white kitchens again.

Hahahahaha the shot of that dude staring at his living-room car with its headlights still on is the best thing I've seen this morning. I particularly enjoy the fact that the seating is placed for maximum car-viewing pleasure.

Every time one of the AT blogs posts something related to this issue (quite often, I might add), I'm always struck by how many people are absolutely hysterical about germs.

Also, the "How do people who wear shoes in the house exist? Do they wear them in the bath and to bed?" posts are eye-rollers every single time.

wow, no need to bring 9/11 into this. sure, it would be stupid to take this on a plane . . . you'd just be asking for trouble . . . but plenty of people take trips that don't involve air travel. if someone likes driving around with a suitcase that looks like it has an axe in it (the only one i thought was funny, these could benefit from a more cartoon-ish vibe) then why the hell not?
