who has the time and effort to take your swing apart every time you use it!? that is almost more ridiculous than the price!

i saw the honeycomb style globes at Party City or If It's Paper. I don't know if that store is in your area but the oriental style lanterns are cheap at ikea and www.pearlriver.com

my daughter is 17 months and could care less about being read to, but loves looking at books! we point to pictures and find things. we have the "i am a bunny" book by richard scary and we point to the bunny on each pages and find the frogs and squirrels and birds. we also look at a lot of picture books and she loves learning words to pictures of things she sees everyday like bananas for breakfast or milk. she also loves to find someone's eyes, mouth, nose, etc on the people in the pictures. one day she will care about the story!

one of my favorite books of all time is the "monster at the end of this book" with grover from sesame street. my dad was so dramatic and i just loved turning the pages after grover told me not to! we just bought the book for my daughter and my husband is just itching to read it to her, but she is a bit young right now. we are still at the pointing to pictures and not listening to a story phase.

our house is too small to have an exersaucer so we never bought one. my substitute was a johnny jumper and our daughter LOVED it! i liked that it was super easy to move from room to room and super cheap ($20). it grips to the doorway on the molding. plus, i was able to borrow it, so i didn't have to purchase a new one. it was my saving grace while trying to take a shower and cook dinner!! now, she just plays with pots and pans while i cook. showers are another story! having a small space really forces you to find new ways to entertain a child!

i made my own and i love it! i bought rings from slingrings.com and bought 2 1/2 yards of fabric. it was printed cotton so it had a right and wrong side. the fabric was 45" wide and it just sewed it right sides together and basically just followed the instructions here it was REALLY easy! i love the rings because i can adjust it. it really keeps her happy while shopping and since i carried her in front of me while pregnant (of course) i had the muscles to carry her in a sling and not get sore! its really comfy and she loves it.

i purchased curtains from ikea and cut them short so they would go from the ceiling to the bottom of the window (about waist high). then i screwed in 5 equally spaced cup-hooks across the top right by the ceiling. then used drapery clips (ikea) to clip the fabric and hang on cup hooks. i folded about a foot of fabric over the top of the curtain to give a "topper" and made a deep hem of about a foot at the bottom of the curtain.

then to tie them back when i wanted to i used a piece of ribbon with binder rings tied to each side and hung the ribbon tie-back on a cup hook. so at night (or nap time) i just unhook one of the sides of the ribbon tie backs and then re-hook when i want more light.

here are pictures of my nursery (sans rocking chair) to get a better idea
