If you're going to go the "putting it on a chair" route, don't forget that to make it work, you need a shiba inu to sleep amidst your clothing, or it won't work properly.

This is awesome. I hope we keep hearing more about great stuff that's made in the USA.

(Some) Lasko fans, heaters and humidifiers are made in the USA, but not all of them.

As for building materials, USG Drywall is made in NW Indiana, and other locations around the US. Shaw, Mohawk and Milliken carpet is made in the southern US, Sherwin-Williams paint is made on the South side of Chicago, and Pionite laminate as well as some Formica is American made.

When you're doing actual construction, it pays to call or email the manufacturer and just ask where items are sourced. Imported stuff, especially building materials, is awfully risky, because you don't know if there's lead, cadmium or other toxins in them. Plus, it's significantly greener to source materials from within 500 miles of your home, and buying American creates real, sustainable jobs.

I'm way into that crazy green and chrome stool in the kitchen. Does anyone know where they got that?

I love how Real Simple isn't really about simplifying life so much as it's about selling you stuff.

You only think they're different, Traciwithaneye, because you've obviously never been invited to a wedding. There's nothing different, fun or original about these.

Raising funds and awareness about breast cancer is important, but people should be mindful that we can't just shop our way to a better world.

The Marshall amp as a nightstand is a nice tough. I'm a fan of function over form, so I'd be curious to see what his stereo set up looks like for listening to that record collection.

QueenOfTheFail: I agree - the whole fun of using found and vintage items, for me, is that they don't cost an arm and a leg. There's a lot more satisfaction in finding something in a thrift store or at a garage sale that has a high level of utility and a low price.

I think a lot of "retro" and "vintage" stuff gets fetishized, to the point that it loses a lot of it's original value.

It looks really cool, but I guess I'd rather put the time, effort and money into bricking up my own outdoor fireplace. I could then use real firewood, and I imagine that it would give off actual heat.

Not knocking her project (it's super cute and would rock in a living room), but I don't see an advantage if you're outdoors, especially in cooler climes like SF or Chicago.
