I got rid of my landline about 6 years ago when I switched to cable internet from DSL. I realize the only people whose landline number I know are my parents. Everyone else just gives out their mobile number. Moving Survey: Do You Have a Land Line? |

I loved living in Chicago (I'm a New Yorker now). The winters may be brutal, but the city is fantastic. I love the rat patrol guys in streets and sanitation, because they cleared the city of rats in a remarkable span of time. I love the trees and parks and Daley's whole green initiative. He may be a despot, but a mayor who plants trees and mandates green roofs is better than a mayor who builds more ugly condos. I love the Ando room at the Art Institute and the Calders at MCA. I love the many colors of Lake Michigan, even the frozen winter grays. And I loved the University of Chicago, where Obama used to teach and I learned to think. In the past year, I've experienced the extremes of guy apartments. Number one had a bathroom that warranted shoes rather than mere flip flops and a kitchen with a dirty litter box. Number two has fluffy towels, nice iPod mixes made for my taste, and French-press coffee. Guess which one I'm dating? Guys, you might not mind your gross apartment with it's associated fungi, but other people will. I was in Western Ukraine last year and found that apartment dwellers all have personalized doors. It's odd at first, but I grew to really like it. They don't just have decorated doors, but entirely different doors, made of different materials. Sometimes wood, sometimes metal, one door or two, painted or stenciled, with lovely handles. It's really an extension of the apartment interior. Apartment Therapy New York | Crazy Door Art: The Place for Self Expression?Paris, France |

I'd use it to clean all the weird dust that settles in my apartment from the rehabbing my landlord seems to be doing to every apartment above me. Many years ago, when I lived in St. Louis, I had to dodge a huge woodchuck on my way to my car after work. I had no idea what it was. A helpful security guard filled me in. I also ran into the occassional fox, turkey, game hen, and peacock. Then again, I worked in Forest Park, so I shouldn't have been surprised. Apartment Therapy Chicago | Surprising Outdoor Guests? |

That post about Humboldt Park reminded me of how much I love the ferns in the Garfield Park Conservatory (and how much I miss living in Chicago). In New York, all hours are fair game for noise. Luckily, in my neighborhood, there are no lawns to speak of, only the 7 train and garbage trucks. You get used to those. When I lived in the Midwest, I developed a hatred of a particularly lazy neighbor who had gas powered lawn mowers, snow blowers, leaf blowers, and hedge trimmers, which he used at all hours of the day and night. Is it really so difficult to use a rake? Apartment Therapy Los Angeles | WeedWacker Wakeup: What's a Fair Hour For Morning Noise? |
