I'm simultaneously horrified by the number of pest-related problems here and comforted that I wasn't alone! The worst place was a 4-unit house my BF had lived in for 3 years. He had a good working relationship with the property management company that went to &@^$% over pests. We found out that there had been a bedbug infestation in one of the apartments that the PM NEVER told any of the other tenants about, and had convinced the affected tenants that it was their problem. The tenants threw out everything they owned and moved out in the night. Lo and behold, other units started experiencing problems. When we reported the problem, the PM tried to tell us, "It must be lice." We called the Health Inspector. Then the retaliation started. When we finally appealed directly to the landlord, he brought over a few bug bombs and said he didn't know what else to do. We ended up fleeing and having to threaten to sue to get out of the lease, which was void because they had lied about the previous pest problem. The saddest thing was that the building was beautiful and we had to leave a town that we loved, all because the PM wouldn't deal with the problem up front.
