kaylaco, the yellow fabric for the curtains is just regular cotton fabric from the City Quilter in Chelsea. I lined the curtains with white cotton fabric, which gives them a little more weight but still allows light to shine through. Much cheaper option than upholstery weight fabric if you don't care about blocking light.

kushkush, I am sorry to inform you that I have a massive amount of closet space for a NYC apartment...a coat closet, two bedrooms closets and a full wall of cabinets in the hallway to store cleaning supplies, linens and extra clothes. I really should have included pictures because I'm pretty crazy about organization and everything is neat, color coded, etc. The thin black hangers from Bed and Bath are a lifesaver!

mom2themonk, glad I could help!

coripa, the zig zag wall isn't wallpaper, it's paint.

22, my biggest kitchen tips are make sure you have storage space and counter/work space elsewhere in your apartment. I keep most of my glasswear and all of my table linens in the bar in my living room, which frees up valuable cabinet space in the kitchen for things I use all the time and need handy while cooking - pots/pans, dishes and food! It's unlikely you use large appliances like Cuisinarts and mixers everyday, so throw those in a closet. I try to keep my counters very free of clutter, using skinny clear drawer organizers along the back edges to corral olive oil, salt and pepper, etc. I keep spices in the door to my fridge - space that is usually pretty useless. I have no drawers or wall space (other than right above the stove, which gets greasy), so I love magnetic hooks to hang pot holders, dishtowels, etc. right on the fridge. And perhaps most importantly, I do not have a microwave, which normally takes up a ton of counter space. Whenever I'm cooking for more than two, I use my dining room table for prep work. The riser in the dining area was there and I agree that it divides the room perfectly. But I have to admit, I hate the black railing and have thought about ripping it out. I'm sure the landlord put it in as a "safety" measure...glad to know it may not as ugly as I think it is.

westvillageloft, I wish I could help! Hope we get to see the results once you are done.

themoderngal, I would love to!

heathercan9, the china is a mix: the blue/gold is vintage from my grandmother, the white scalloped plates are from antique stores/ebay (pattern is Kaiser Romantica), and my normal everyday plates, which are also mixed in, are the Buffet Plates from Crate and Barrel.

dNYCmo, my best advice is talk to friends, co-workers, etc. who live in the neighborhood and see if they like their apartments and landlords (in my opinion a good landlord/super is just as important as the space). Then call the management companies every few months to check for openings in those buildings…that way you grab a great place before it hits the market. I was lucky and found mine on craigslist, which I know is rare. I already lived down the block so was the first person to show up and literally called the management company as I walked in the door to see it. I also have friends who have had luck walking around areas they like and talking to doormen (tough, but not impossible in the WV).

Melissa_B, the white table in the chevron entry is from Artifacts by Elise in Garwood, NJ. They have a huge warehouse filled to the brim with furniture that can be refinished or painted.

DC Mandy, everything is already on the boat to London…

MelissaM, I used regular blue painter’s tape. My wall is bumpy so I used my fingernails to carefully press it down to try to prevent leaks. Of course it didn’t work perfectly so I had to go back when all was dry and use a small exacto knife to cut away the top layer of charcoal paint on any areas that bled through.

Elizabethdc, the bedside tables are 2x2 IKEA expedit shelves with the middle vertical shelf removed (I bought little white plastic caps at the hardware store to cover the holes).

Amygoog, I bought the ten loose leaf tea infusers for the tea party and gave them to guests to take home as a party favor.

Juliaf, I agree that the chevron looks a bit navy in that one photo. It must just be the photograph because it is definitely charcoal in real life. (For reference, it is the same color as the wall behind my desk...which may look more gray on your screen.)

Tara Emelye, there is roughly 2-3 ft of space around the bed on all sides. When I’m in my bedroom I’m usually either lounging or getting dressed so don’t need a ton of open space. It is cozy, but I have never felt crowded.

Hi everyone, Sarah here. Thank you for all of your comments! In answer to some of your questions...

Sunny82, I mention the "next tenant" because I am actually moving to London in a few weeks. I am sad to leave NYC but excited to start life in a new city and decorate a new apartment. (London house tour to come once I'm settled...)

Stacey H, I promise if you could see them closely you would agree about the windows...the frames are scratched brown metal and there are layers of dirt trapped between the two panes of glass...not pretty.

ShanaRuth, the upholsterer is Javier at Garwood Interier Upholstery in Garwood, NJ. He is great and very reasonably priced.

Looks like you are in Chicago, but if you ever make it out to NYC, the ABC outlet has great deals on a lot of Weinrib rugs...

Let me preface my comments by saying that I LOVE bunnies. I grew up with an adorable black dwarf bunny who lived in my bedroom. And to this day, I still incorporate bunnies into my decor (tastefully, I swear). BUT there are three things you should seriously consider before taking the plunge...

1) Bunnies chew everything, and unlike dogs, I don't think you can train them not to (at least I didn't have any success in the 7 years I had mine). He ate my carpet (like it was grass), chewed wires, nibbled books, etc. You really have to be alert when they are out of the cage hopping around.

2) POOP. Bunnies poop a lot. And if you keep them indoors, poop=smell. You can clean the cage every day, but I promise, when people walk into your apartment, they will notice (cedar wood chips help, but carry a distinct smell of their own). As for your concern about "spreading hay and pellets all over the place," my bunny always did his business in a nice contained corner of his cage (a self-designated "bathroom area" away from his food) and never on my rug.

3) Bunnies are not affectionate/loyal like cats and dogs. If you are really looking for a pet who will show you love, a bunny may not be the right fit.

That being said, bunnies are adorable and pretty low maintenance when it comes to pets. When the weather was warm, I would take mine outside and let him roam around the garden or put him on a leash for a hop in the park. My bunny was a great pet when I was 15...I'm just not sure I would do it all over again as an adult.
