The differing extremes of the black and white emphasise the natural wood floor. Lovely herring-bone blocking.

Excellet hallstand, I have one like that at home, it originally came from our family home and before that I think my Grandmother's home. It's difficult to tell its age from the photograph but it certainly fits in with the late Victorian / Edwardian (as we call it in UK) era.
