I converted a second floor closet to a laundry room. And I took a foot from an adjacent closet, too, to get full sized units in there, side by side. There are washers that are known for managing the vibration better and while we can tell the spin cycle is on if we are in a nearby room, the whole house does not shake. Anther second floor consideration should be putting the units in a metal "pan" on the floor in case of leaks, preferably with a drain, and having easy-access water shut offs right there so you can shut the water supply off when on vacation or whatnot. I bought a house with a similar water element (for fish though, but similar in appearance and access. I put a KatchaKid cover on it. If not, i would have drained it. You are all correct that a pool is not something you can have children around, until they are teenagers really, and then I'd worry about friends, drinking, etc. But, if you want it, or it's there already, there are ways to make it safe with covers, locks and alarms that beep if doors are opened. Seems like these folks have all 3, and probably also a lot of rules about when the pool is "open." That said, seems like a big expense for something you have to keep under cover. My Samsung VRT front loader washer is a piece of junk. 2 years old and unable to complete a cycle most times. I will never buy Samsung again. Going to try LG next time. I did a ton of research before buying it, too, but they seem to have problems with lemons. I got a total lemon first (would not complete a cycle a single time after install) and I had to call and complain 20+ times to get it replaced (only after I found a repair person who owned up that there was a known electronics problem). Imagine my disenchantment when now this one is doing it. I can sometimes solve it by putting in more clothes and starting over. Sometimes I can just tell it to rinse and spin. Sometimes I stare at it with hatred and go to bed and try starting the cycle over in the morning. On average I run 5 cycles to get 3 loads done. The Best Washing Machine? Reader Roundup |

I also hate the over the fireplace thing. It's not art, people, it's an appliance! We did have our TV wall mounted for a few years since we could not figure out where to put it in an oddly shaped room. Turned out to be a bummer to crane the neck, so we pulled it down and put it on the built in bookshelf. Much more civilized viewing and much less a focal point of our family room. Hmmm, not really wise to invest in too much until you find a more permanent home. To have a sofa or rug that will not fit is truly disheartening. Once you buy a home, or decide to stay put for 5 years or some such, then sure, rid yourself of the particleboard - that goes for Ikea and Crate and Pottery Barn though. The Ikea accessories, though? They have a place is any home. The key is moderation in all things. Don't chuck it because it's Ikea specifically, chuck it if it seems low quality i that environment or use, doesn't look good, or you found a better option. Most of us continue to buy at Ikea long into our fully furnished-final-home years. See Ya Later Ikea: Out with the New & In with the Old |

Colonial No. Embrace the mid-century-ness. It can be totally cute and cozy. If it were me I'd put in some nice, high quality wood doors (and yes, kill the weird 45 degree angle things) and add a pergola out of material like the doors (Cedar?) - to better define the walkway to the front. I'd paint it a dark mushroomy green with red trim and accents and plant some nice flowers to climb the pergola and brighten the front. Suggestions on Garage Door and Driveway Replacement? First mistake is the "playroom" idea. Make it a "family room" and, sure, have toys in there, but use it for more than a toy garage. Teach him what is okay to touch and to have respect for his surroundings. His playdate's parents will appreciate it. Protecting a Piano from Scratches Good Questions |
