That was a nice Ethan Allan dresser &, in my opinion, should have stayed unpainted.

My suggestion is to get paint samples of a large variety of saturated colors, hold them up to the wall (to the wall color, actually) to find the ones that pop to your liking
against the walls, and then paint the cabinets (bottom cabinets only) in that color.

I liked the before and I like the after. Either way, it's a cute lamp.

Is grandma still living there? If so, I bet she'd really be more comfortable with the room as she had it (unless she felt she had to follow current trends when she first set up the room and is really happier with today's styles).

I love what you did with your place, but am curious about one thing. In the bedroom, there's a desk/vanity top affixed to the wall. Underneath it? - a series of graduated things that are probably seating of some sort, but I can't figure it out. What is it/are they?

I like the after. I also dislike the unnecessary rudeness of many.

I also have a long and narrow living room. It is visually divided into two areas, the first, a library and plant area, the second the "living" part of the living room, with couch, small entertainment center, and table in the corner. Each area has its own rug. The rugs are laid out in different directions, which also helps delineate the areas. A small grouping (a stool, plant, and basket) stands at the junction of the two areas and helps ease the eye from one area to the other. My house was on Apt Therapy a few years ago, so you can see what I am talking about at:

I like this makeover, but I'm a little tired of seeing posts that describe older decor as horrid. It was everybody's idea of what to do once upon a time. What is this stylishness that equals buy, use a little, discard or change for a trendy new look. Buy....buy.....buy
Nothing wrong with a new look. But I'm tired of seeing everything to be changed labeled as ugly, outdated etc. I suppose that in 2030, everyone will be getting rid of that "dated white-cabinet look" and going back to wood. Etc., etc. etc.
