those are cute, but i recommend my friend jessica's teepees. she and her husband make them by hand, one by one. they're amazing (i have one in my playroom). and you're supporting a family, not a corporation.

i made one for my daughter's birthday and it was a huge hit. i found a pretty cotton shower curtain with a vintage-y floral pattern. the reason the shower curtain instead of a sheet because one edge of it already had the slits cut that were perfect for hanging on suction cup hooks on the windows! in total, the kit i made came with: the pretty cotton shower curtain, four wooden waldorf clips that i found on etsy, four suction cup hooks, and a flashlight all in a little pretty basket. here's a photo of it in action :) http://instagram.com/p/O7iKrJv0DF/

creep city. yuck. i can see the artistic value in it, somewhat. ish. but it's not art for a kid's room. if you want something a little darker, yet still sweet try The Black Apple on etsy. we've got the bandits up in our play room and the dancing bear in our hallway. with none of the creepy dude-pretending-to-be-the-artist baggage.

aaaaah, the passive aggressively judgy pre-baby post about being smart and good enough to not need all the ugly stuff which in turn invites all the judgy comments about what you really do need or don't need. this shizz always cracks me up :)

first of all, it's a rad mower! lucky girl! but if you asked her to pick the color, you've got to let her have the color (otherwise just avoid giving options, which is my usual go-to line of defense ;)
i would choose a shiny hot pink or a hot coral color. summery and girly and she will love you for it.

cute! down balloons are the new up balloons, with the helium shortage. lippman party co was going to charge me $17.50/balloon to fill up five of shop sweet lulu's giant balloons last week. so instead, we had those giant balloons hanging from the apple tree branches for my daughter's birthday. just as good :)

adelaidean, i love your comment :) :) mostly because you found a way to make your picky obsessiveness endearing :)

in general, these comments cracked me up.

i just need good light. i appreciate so many design elements, but if pretty things are in a house with bad natural light, it's for naught. my house is smallish, only 1750 sq feet but it was built in two stories in an almost perfect square with an open floorplan so that every single room has big windows on at least two sides. it makes me so happy. so many mcmansions are built for size, but often have relatively poor lighting. and homes built in the 90s often have big walls with tiny windows, poor things.

did you mention if you have room to keep it or not? if i were you, i would totally keep it and it will be an heirloom when your son has his own kids. just sell the mattress. the crib is gorgeous, you spent a pretty penny on it and it will be nostalgic in 30 years. keep it :)

sounds totally fun and cute to me, and something that i would have SO wanted to do as a kid, but now as a parent, i can't help but thinking of firefighters trying to go through the house looking for kids and not knowing to check the closets, or earthquakes with rods/shelving up above the beds, etc. whoever posted to make little nook hide-aways, i think that sounds like a great compromise! i would have made it a hideaway as a kid myself!

i was a toy snob.... until my precious boy fell in love with spongebob (has there ever been an uglier character??) but his obsession was so sweet natured that i couldn't help but get him a couple of toys. his favorite thing ever, though, that he played with for a year? a spongebob gogurt box from costco. imagine me having to keep that around the house :)

iphone photos are super low resolution and won't print well any larger than, say, a 4"x4" print, so you have to basically force it to be higher resolution to get it to look nice as a big print!

my daughter got a CPK from her nana... it's name is Cindy Leticia. i mean, really?! ahaha

when i was little, i got one real cabbage patch doll and two handmade ones, a sweet newborn and a really hideous girl doll. i got a stain on the cloth newborn's face that would never come out so i remember being so sad :(

my daughter has used the malm since her 2nd birthday with no problems and our big bed is not a malm, but a big pottery barn platform bed and we have never had a problem. the duvee usually goes down over the corners for a little padding.

i find it so fascinating... as soon as someone posts a room tour with anything questionable, like a bumper for example, the safety police come out full force to criticize but as soon as ohdeedoh posts a recommendation like this, the rule-breakers come out full force. or are they same commenters?
everybody chiiilllllll. cribs are not prisons. use common sense, or honestly even what i'd like to call Rare Sense, since so few people seem to use it...

i write directly on the page, too. yeah, it might be awkward if the book is passed on a year later or haphazardly, but i personally love finding a vintage book in a shop with a long-ago inscription. inscribe away!

the gender/color discussion is always so tiring! it's a gorgeous color, for a boy or a girl. my own advice would be grey and cream. but that's what i recommend for pairing with every color :)
