My son's name is Shade. He was named after his great, great, great grandfather Shadrach, who was called Shade by his family members and friends.

My daughter's name is Yancey. I got that one from a Southern gothic novel way before I even thought about being pregnant.

I have three boards so far: Decor, which is mostly full of boho/gyspy looks, Hairstyles, and Randomness.

I have to admit, I got a little giddy this morning when I saw that some people had started following my Decor board.

My mother had a complete set of the gold Ironstone Fiestaware that she sold in a yard sale. It would have looked fabulous in my retro kitchen.

I have a set of Japanese comic postcards that are similar in shapes. I used blue poster hanging goo to hang them in rows in my kitchen. Looks great, and none of them have fallen.

My orange kitchen decorated with Hello Kitty lunchboxes, Fiestaware, 50s pin ups, and artwork done by my kids and husband definitely fits into the un-kitcheny category. We love it, and everyone that sees it says it's totally us.

And it doesn't require a large amount of extra cleaning, so it's a win-win.

Tucked way back into one of my kitchen cabinets I found a box of Kroger brand macaroni and cheese from the 60s/70s (judging by the design of the box). My kids were fascinated by the fact it didn't have a bar code on it.

My thermostat is right in the center of the longest wall in my living room. Rather than try to hide it, I treat it like it's art. It's framed with a empty wooden picture frame painted to look like copper. The frame helps it to blend in with all of the other art on the wall (and there's a lot of items hanging on that wall). I get complimented on it all the time.

I used to be a comforter and fuzzy blanket kind of gal, but when my husband came into the picture we had to switch to a quilt and a sheet. He's warm all of the time, and that was too much heat for him. Now I have him to keep me warm at night :)

What ticks me off now is the fact that there are tool kits in floraly pink for women, and Ouija boards in pink for girls. Why does a hammer have to have a pink handle before I would ever use it? Would a pink Ouija board only summon female spirits?

Our main Christmas tree is metallic chartreuse green tinsel (it came pre-lit with green lights as well). We also have a mini silver tinsel one (for all of the Hello Kitty decorations), a mini red metallic one (that also doubles as a Valentine's Day tree), and a iridescent white one for the bathroom. We like a lot of variety :)

One year one of the cats apparently ate a piece of tinsel. She walked by me, and I wondered why there was a flash of sparkle near her tail. Lo and behold, the tinsel was in the process of working it's way out, but there was still enough inside that it couldn't quite make it. She looked like she was flying a banner out of her bum! I pulled, and the offending piece of tinsel came out in one strip.

After that, no more tinsel.

A friend of mine inherited a kitchen with bright green and yellow laminate cabinets and counters. I thought they were cool; she did not. She actually used contact paper to cover the majority of the color, and it held up quite well. I don't know how she had the patience to do all of that, though. I would not.

My kitchen walls are bright orange. Everyone that sees them says "It's not a color I would have picked for myself, but here it looks GOOD".
