Before was better.

While there's much about this I love (especially the spare dining room that makes so much of the window), I don't understand how two people can get by with only one chair in the sitting room. If there's more seating there, I wonder why you didn't show it?

Everything here's wonderful and truly original-- a refreshing change from a lot of AT design that follows the same few conventions. The kitchen table's combination of rough wood and thickly enameled metal base is particularly lovely and surprising. The use of scale, color and height in the composition of this space is really skillful and effective. I wish I could have seen the bathroom and the kitchen because design this good makes me want to see more.

So much better before. Less is more.

This is one of my all time favorite AT house tours. Why? For starters:
The beauty of this space emerges from original vision, not from buying what's hip or status-seeking. The home is highly functional and graceful without fussiness. Art is not crowded, and furniture and objects have breathing space. The palette is complex and rich, yet the rooms flow together. The end result is a home that is both dynamic and serene and again, truly original. And what a beautiful family it shelters.

In these e-book days, shelf clutter is easier to avoid. And, I just did a closet makeover this summer, just as AM describes. It's wonderful to see everything clearly; it makes me more creative about dressing and somehow indulgent: although there's very little in my closet, it's all beautifully displayed, if only for me.

I love monochromatic furniture (or, in this case, nearly monochromatic). In fact, I might have painted the wood the same color as the linen, or a slightly darker, grey version of that color.
