I just ate here on Friday, with my brilliant mother. We had the other Buratta dish with arugula and a crostini with olive tapenade. It was sooooo good.

We also shared the escarole salad with sunchokes and a pizza. Everything was outstanding.

Thanks for the recipes!

It's especially good per Reichl's directions with the pine nuts and raisins. I'll sometimes go wild and add some anchovies, too. Yum.

I use this recipe for "poached" scrambled eggs from the NY Times Sunday magazine.

It's from a few years back, but they kind of changed my life regarding scrambled eggs. They're ridiculously good and not really any more effort; plus, no butter so a bit on the lighter side...

Kathryn,

I've been meaning to leave a comment for ages telling you how much I love these "spotlight" posts! The photos are always beautiful and I love learning more about random ingredients.

Thanks!

The one in Berkeley is easily a weekly stop for me. I work within walking distance. The salad bar and deli case are awesome. I used to buy there on a more regular basis but it's pricey, so definitely more of a special treat nowadays.

I still stop by regularly for home cooking inspiration and make sure to make a few small purchases every so often (baguette, olives, piece of chocolate) to support local business.

I actually had no idea they had an online business!

Quite possibly my most favorite house tour ever...right up my alley!

I love that huge photo on the wall...any more details you can offer?

This is so obviously a well-loved and well-used home. Thank you for sharing!

Zuni style, hands-down. A few weeks back I tried the Julia Child's method with butter rubbed all over and we still preferred the Zuni recipe. Super easy, no need for extra fat and delicious. I'll sometimes throw a lemon in the cavity and roast up some vegetables or potatoes at the same time.

@Tiamat_the_Red: I also got the AdHoc cookbook! Yesterday I made the "brussel sprouts with braised radishes and kohlrabi" and the "rainbow chard with raisins and pine nuts". They're both delicious.

I also got the new Gourmet cookbook and the LA farmer's market cookbook.

I really like it tossed on a bunch of asparagus and a quick red wine vinaigrette. It's also super yummy in a nicoise-ish style salad.

I wanted to plant tarragon in my garden this year but haven't been able to find it!

We had this problem last year with our zucchini plants. It drove me a bit crazy and I ended leaving them woefully neglected them out of spite. This year we skipped the zucchini but planted cantaloupe in a wine barrel. We'll probably need to support the melons with some sort of sling contraption but at least we're getting along!

i'm snacking on a "fridge leftovers" slaw as i read this. i used the buttermilk dressing from smitten kitchen that calls for a mere 2 tblspns of mayonnaise (i've used less as well and it's still great). it's super tasty and i bet would make an awesome dressing with this recipe...

Great resources, Faith! Thank you. I just listed a few of my favorites over here.

We're working on the 4th reincarnation of our vegetable garden and I have to say, all of the books are great but there's nothing like learning through trial and error...

cooking potatoes in milk? i may have missed something obvious here, but i've never done that before. do you cook them the same way you would normally? brilliant!

a friend taught me this trick: fill a large bowl with water, cut the pomegranate into quarters and then drop the pieces in the water. with the pieces submerged, break them apart, the seeds fall to the bottom and the pithy white parts float to the top (and the juices don't get all over your clothes). skim off the white pith and you got yourself a bowl of clean seeds.

i like the seeds in a salad with pistachios and oranges.

gretchenalexis and aeh: sorry it took so long, i had to search for the paint-chip. it's benjamin moore brand paint and the color is "hot spring stones". it's actually more brown than gray, it's an almost perfect match to haagen daas coffee ice cream!
