Your kitchen is lovely and simple. All it really needs is some accessorizing with new hardware, fixtures and textiles. If you are on a budget and want to modernize and add functionality, I would pay attention to what's INSIDE the cabinets. The **best** knife I ever used for slicing tomatoes was given to me in a $5 gift exchange. It is a simple Messermeister serrated tomato knife with a red plastic handle and matching sheath.
