My mom spent about 6 months tearing out recipes she liked from back issues of bon appetit and gourmet from the 80s (she retired in 2011) then photocopied them and put them in binders based on the type of food..."sweets" "pork" "seafood" etc.

I live in suburban Northern NJ...our farmers markets are only from June - November so if i want farmer's market produce I have to go to the country or the city. :(

I love cheese and beer - I discovered it one day while eating Wisconsin cheddar and drinking a Leinunkuegel beer. I'm sure the folks at Leinie already know how well their stuff goes with wisconsin cheddar!

Lol...my boyfriend always tells me he's 'afraid' of polenta (I have no clue why) so whenever I serve it to him I call it grits. He does get suspicious when I give him the firm stuff! (I also tell him veal cutlets are turkey cutlets - he doesn't have a moral objection to veal, he's just finnicky).

Agh I'm going with cozy minimalism too! I don't like a lot of 'stuff' out but I also don't want it to feel bare and cold.

I need a good balance - plain white bores me and makes me feel cold and the room look cold...but too much 'stuff' bothers me! Probably minimalist but with color (restrained color though - light turquoise, a little green a little yellow and maybe a pop of coral).

To each his own. If you're ok with renting then that's cool. I personally wouldn't rent forever because of that home mortgage interest deduction and other things (I would love to have a fixer upper, I hate landlords, etc).

I have peppermint (mostly for the holidays), almond and orange. I like to put the orange in sugar cookies!

I read a couple of blogs and have a few cook books laying around...I guess I just try whatever appeals to me (photos help) and whatever my boyfriend can eat! (He has allergies to shellfish, nuts and blueberries poor guy). I usually eat the same thing two nights in a row so I try new recipes out all the time.

Ask people to bring a dish so they know they'll have at least one thing to eat...? If possible make something that everyone can eat? The only problem I ever had for a dinner party was a 'chili' party I had...one of my friends boyfriend's didn't eat beef and the other friend's boyfriend didn't like beans. (Why did I invite them to my chili party again??). I made turkey chili and scooped some out before I added the beans for the bean hater.

Yum....I love greek yogurt. I started using it a few years ago to make Indian and Greek marinated chicken dishes. I use it all the time now to replace mayo and sour cream in dips and salad dressings and other recipes. I recently used it in a blue cheese dressing and it was SO good! Fage has the best tart flavor in my opinion! I eat it almost every day- I enjoy it plain with a little bit of cinnamon (or sometimes cocoa powder) and fresh fruit. I'm not a fan of the ones with the fruity syrup in them - too sweet for me!

My best ikea kitchen purchase was a hanging dish rack that folds up when not in use! I used in it my tiny studio kitchen without a lot of prep space and now its being used in my boyfriends kitchen which has even LESS prep space. Hung above the sink, its a fantastic space saver!

Pistachios! After my mom picked me and my brother up from daycare the sit of us would sit around the table waiting for my dad to come home eating the pistachios (the ones dyed red). We would crack them open and stain our fingers and eat sooo many!
