I would love to answer your question about the book cases however I am a bit confused, are you referring to this design or on general?
In this design we actually added custom book shelves behind the sofa, just simple brackets with walnut wood shelves.
I loved the painting from decorative point of view but client needed more storage!

I like multi-layered approach to this design. There's an air of sophistication and glamor to what was probably a very plain space. Faiella clearly has a great flairvfor transforming spaces. I love the rich colors, the creative ideas and rare results of achieving great design with a limited budget. Grat job!

sucrek- yes, I can attest to the strength of the bookshelves/seat. I am not only the architect who designed it, but I have sat on it as well and can tell you that its strong. Those vertical dividers at 16" on center gives a lot of support.

As the architect/designer of this kitchen, I want to respond to some of the comments and observations:

Since the stove is 6-burner commercial grade, there was a need for a large and powerful ventilating hood, the owner got a great deal on the hood as well as the stove, which is why their finishes dont match, but to my eyes, black and stainless steel go well together.

Open shelves vs cabinets- First of all, the photo does not show the fourth wall of this kitchen, which has a huge bank of cabinets that go to the ceiling, so there is ample cabinets which provide concealed storage. Open shelving is becoming a common request from my clients, and I believe the best solution is a combination of the two, open shelving for display as well for those items that users need multiple times a day and cabinets for all the utilitarian items that people need.

I agree with fabframes and ubertimmo. Wabi-Sabi is not Feng Shui. Its a philosphy and thought process that should spill out naturally. To me, wabi-sabi is a personal thing and not a formula to follow.

As the architect who designed this cabinet, I wanted to respond to some of the previous comments and astute observations:

1. The dryer is vented through the back wall.
2. That angled side cabinet stores the detergents.
3. Look closely at the bottom rail in front of the appliances, see those two slotted holes? Thats to allow that piece of wood to be removed for maintance.

Thanks, Andre

The thing I love about this bathroom design (and Apartment Therapy) is its celebration of creativity and orginality. I have never seen an etheral video projected on a ceiling like this, accompanied with ambiant music no less. Maybe some of the previous commentators prefer tulips rendered ala Pottery Barn, but not me. I think this design is fantastic. Anastasia Faiella really did put the "POW" in this powder room.
