Made this last night with roommates and loved it - I'd definitely go with the smaller baking dish, and don't use plain brown rice, either - I used a brown/wild rice mix from Trader Joe's that also had wheat berries in it, which gave it a really nice, nutty/crunchy texture (good for those who are still a little icky about mushroom mouthfeel). A friend of mine's parents used to throw an Anti Post-Holiday Depression Party every winter in mid-January. I think I'd like to start that tradition for my friends and family - good food, wine, and company as the perfect antidote to short days, little sun, and cold (or, if you live in KY, manic and frenzied) weather. I think the best solution to the time-consuming aspect of steel-cut oats is to make them in a thermos of boiling water before you go to bed -- by the time you wake up, they're just about perfect, and it's a lot less mess than dealing with goop in a pot. Beautiful - a hint of savory and the perfect amount of sweet. The pumpkin puree gives the perfect amount of moisture to the rest of the cake. I'll definitely make this one again. Forbidden Fruit's coffee icing would be a wonderful addition; I'll try that next time. Apartment Therapy - Recipe: Pumpkin Crumb Cakes |

The bathroom and bedroom are my favorites - I love the tile backsplash, and the blue is wonderfully serene - I'm glad it's only on the one wall. It looks great with those sheets. Apartment Therapy - #8 - K & M's Color Expressions |

Well, I'm pretty much in love with the kitchen area. It's fun and bright, but at the same time elegant. The green is darling with the b&w floors and the black chairs as well. I'm not crazy about any of the other rooms, though - I love the orange accent wall next to the bedspread, but I was pretty horrified to learn that the two walls not shown in the bedroom are two different, equally bright colors. It's vivid and bright, that's for sure, but there's nowhere for the eye to rest. I am reminded of why I hate clowns. I think the scheme in the office could be nice if the color was toned down a bit, or the artwork on the wall wasn't jockeying for position among the colorful - Personally, I couldn't think in a room that loud. I think I love the kitchen so much because it's the only room whose color scheme promotes the purpose of the room. Apartment Therapy - #5- Rebecca's Dramatic Design |

Nice, but it's mostly the same color scheme used as an accent - I'd like to see a little more variation. Apartment Therapy - #10 - NinaRibena's Lighthearted & Playful Colour |

Yeah, does anyone know what that 'spongy material' is, exactly? Nails go in, but they wiggle right out, and screws don't screw in because the material isn't sturdy enough to hold the spiral shape. ANy thoughts on this? I can't really hang shelves or even towel hooks because of this problem. Apartment Therapy - blik This Wall!: Chicago Finalist #2 - K aka "Sriracha" |
