I have a 2-year-old and am currently 8 months pregnant with the second. The pregnancy has been a tough one, mobility-wise, and I've found that one of the hardest things to do to deal with those issues is to relax my standards of tidy or clean in my house.
I suppose the pay-off (a healthy full term baby) is the wonderful reward, but boy, it's been a tough hang up to deal with. I just stare longingly at my vacuum most days and glare spitefully at my months-old bathroom dust bunnies. Only a few more weeks to go!

Don't forget Harold Lloyd movies too... oh and Laurel and Hardy. When I got older, I loved "Auntie Mame." It was my favourite for a while.

Just borrow one from someone. You'll only use it for a few months. Just put up with it for that long and then get rid of the hideous thing by graciously returning it to its owner :)

My favourite. My family gathers on Christmas eve, we watch "It's a Wonderful Life" (I fall in love a little more every year with George Bailey) and we eat dinner while listening to the late Alan Maitland read "The Shepherd" on CBC radio. It's magic.

La la la love the greens.
I grew up in a house full of writers but they weren't that tidy... Still aren't, but regardless, our house was always warm and homey. This place is like what our house could be if the writers were ever actually home.

I think this place delivers to Canada. I suppose you'd have to be careful about recalls and safety standards being somewhat different from Canada to the US, but it looks fairly reasonable, price-wise. http://www.wayfair.com/Baby-and-Kids-C45226.html

My son was born at 30 weeks and spent about a month and a half in the NICU in two different cities. I have to say, the most helpful thing people did for my husband and I was to drop off meals - casseroles, soups, curries - as we had no energy to cook, if we even remembered to eat.
ALSO, a really great prezzie is a great hand lotion for dry, cracked hands. Having to wash my hands and sanitize them at every moment in the hospital saved my son, but destroyed my hands. The hand lotion I got in a care package from some friends was a life saver.

We put an electric blanket under the matress pad, crank it about an hour before we go to bed and then turn it off when we climb into our toasty, cozy bed. My husband is also always incredibly warm. I call him the Irish furnace. So ... just get yourself one of those.

My favourite one was "Bloody Hell We're Buggered Now." Very silly. I think it's on etsy somewhere.

Jean Pierre Jeunet and Caro film furniture. Reminds me of City of Lost Children. Wicked.

Ok, well, I know someone mentioned bonemeal, but bloodmeal is FANtastic! It may be a little stinky at first but that's why they hate it. My neighbour used it this year on her tulips and this is the first time in years and years that she has actually seen their blooms. The dectectable scent dies down after some time and you may have to apply more after it rains. The added bonus of bloodmeal is that it is also a great fertilizer for your plants. Miracle tree-rat repellent! (insert hellelujah chorus here)

Come on. Snuggies start as a joke, but they are so serious! I love my snuggie. In fact I've considered writing an ode to my snuggie. It's just delightful. However, whenever I walk around in it, my husband thinks it's funny to refer to me as "the Blue Monk."

ooh, ooh... I like this game! I like George Peppard's apartment in "Breakfast at Tiffany's" and the poolhouse in "Philidelphia Story." And "The Apartment" is definitely NOT a couple's starter home. It's more of a bachelor pad/skanky man den.

I have one by kapoosh (http://www.amazon.com/Kapoosh-Universal-Knife-Block-Stainless/dp/B000O38NRK) and I enjoy it. We got lots of great but mismatched knives for our wedding and it takes them all. You can take out the plastic rods and stick them in the dishwasher, which is also good.

Geez,
I'd love to have a pretty bike like that, but in Toronto... bikes don't last too long. There is a tremendous amount of bike theft here.
So, people tend to have folding bikes or lighter-weight bikes that they can bring and store indoors, or they just buy a crappy used bike and ride that. No one generally wants to steal a beater.
