I held off commenting on the porn post, but I'll throw my two cents in here. Many posts don't seem to address the making of a home, but they could if their authors thought about how desire and illness, in these two most recent cases, complicate, enhance, poison, enrich, etc. the meanings we associate with our homes. Specific to this post, it might be interesting to think beyond the circumstance to consider its affect on the spatial dynamics of home life, how life shifts from the kitchen and living room to the bed, etc. I don't want to stifle authors' creativity in what and how they post, but this approach may provide a context that speaks more directly to your audience. This couldn't have come at a better time! So, we have a crazy shower floor, and I was thinking about using a teak mat to provide a more pleasant surface for our bare feet. Has anyone ever done this? Are there significant pitfalls? Do we need to worry about mold/mildew under the mat? Create a Zen Bathroom: 10 Wooden Bath Mats |

Beautiful kitchen! I love the two-toned cabinets and the natural light. I'm interested in the cabinet manufacture, as well, and what material they used for the flooring. Ryan's Stunning San Francisco Remodel Kitchen Tour |

I would often sleep in my closet when I was little. I would drag my Jungle-Book themed sleeping bag, pillow, some stuffed animals and a flashlight into my small closet and settle in for the evening. My main motivation was getting out of making my bed, which was perfectly presentable in the morning thanks to my ingenious new sleeping arrangement. But I think I also loved the small space. We also played in closets, and I may have slept over in my cousin's closet once, I'm sure at my prompting. Do it without hesitation. Unless your child is claustrophobic. I love this, and we have just the spot to do something similar. My practical self, however, wonders how you keep the bed and bedding clean? We get a reasonable amount of dust and pollen on the furniture in our screened in porch. We live in the humid Midwest, and I am always wary of upholstered furniture (or mattresses) soaking up all that moisture during the hot and less cold months. I'm I out in left field on this one? So many things to love about your house! In case you continue to read and respond to posts, can you give me an idea of the dimensions of your kitchen, specifically the size of the island, distance between the island and the cabinets/counter, and the dimensions from the outside edge of the cabinets on the side of the fridge to the wall with the window? Your kitchen design might provide a wonderful template for us... I only wish our bathroom was large enough (and had a window!) to 'borrow' some of your design elements there as well! We also recently purchased a Sealy "Springfree" latex mattress and box spring. We have had the bed for just over a year, and I absolutely love it. I instantly slept better and woke without back pain. It's important to follow the manufacture's instructions for bed frames - we didn't have the proper center support initially, which did make the bed feel like it was already breaking down. With a slight alertation in the frame, all is well. I bargained with the furniture store and got the set for about 10% less than their listed price. We still paid over $2000 for a queen sized set. It was expensive, but worth it. Reviews of IKEA (& Other Brand) Latex Mattresses?Good Questions | Apartment Therapy Chicago |
