Adding to everyone's great suggestions depending on how comfortable everyone is maybe offering to help watch the baby. Especially if they are staying overnight a night out for the parents that's just the two of them can be great. The only time husband and I get alone going out time is when we visit my parents or they stay over our place. My parents buy my daughter a VTech book and husband and I buy her board books. Sometimes she'll go to the VTech book, but she'll mostly gravitate to her board books and sit down on our laps so we can read together. It's whatever gets your kid wanting to read and learn. I don't have an iPod for my toddler. We commute by bus so when she gets cranky and we've exhausted all resources (books, toys, snacks, etc.) I've resorted to giving her my iTouch where she likes to look through pictures of the family. We live in a 1100 sq ft apartment/condo. 2 bedrooms and 2 baths. During the winter especially I would take daughter to walk around the lobby (we get to talk to the security and random people in the building), and the excercise room in the basement area. We commute by bus/Metro so packing up everything the night before and having clothes laid out has worked out so far for us. Daughter is 14 months old and she knows the routine. Husband and I each have our morning tasks and if one of us hasn't done something the other will pick up. It's taken awhile, but teamwork helps so much in getting everyone out of the house. My mom gave us a clip for my daughter's toys so when we were out they wouldn't fall or get lost. The clip itself ended up being her favorite toy for a couple of months especially when she started to teething. Also love stacking cups! So versatile and has saved me from many a meltdown on trips. We were given a Fisher Price bouncer and a swing. They're not the best looking style-wise but my daughter loves them. Even at 14 months which she's clearly outgrown she'll get on her bouncy seat and I'll put on the vibration and she'll sit back and go "Ah!". Don't blame her, if I had a vibrating chair to relax I'd do the same thing! Your Favorite Baby Seat? Good Questions | Apartment Therapy Ohdeedoh |

This is great! We're setting up my daughter's room and she loves her books. We currently have them in a canvas basket but would like for her to have a bookshelf. The Biggest Baddest Bookshelf Bonanza | Apartment Therapy Ohdeedoh |

After the first few months I've become so much more organized (especially more since daughter has started sleeping through the night and not nursing). I never used to pack up for the next day and put clothes aside but now I have to as a matter of survival cause we'd always forget something. Have to make sure there are no choking hazards within reach. Don't necessarily think being organized means everything is clean and tidy more that you can easily find what you are looking for or what you need to do doesn't take a longer than expected because things are not all in order. Did the exact same thing as kitschykitten. We bought an Ikea net ring to surround the crib so cats won't be tempted to jump in, but took it out as soon as daughter was old enough to start pulling at it. Fabulous Frugal DIY Nursery Design Idea | Apartment Therapy Ohdeedoh |
