I agree with Miss Heliotrope and others above. It is wrong to call these people 'gypsies'. They are New Age travellers and are not a distinct ethnic group. 'Gypsies' generally refers to English Romanies and Roma. There are also Irish, Scottish and Welsh travellers which are separate ethnic groups with different historical roots. I find it quite wrong that adopting some of the traditions of another ethnic group should somehow mean that you can label yourself as one of them. A white person who mimics Native American practices does not become entitled to call themselves a member of a Native American tribe. The New Gypsies by Iain McKell |

I live in a city in the north of England, in a fairly new flat. We do not have a separate kitchen, it's just one wall of the living room. You have to choose between having a second sofa or a dining area. We have only one sofa and a dining table for 6. That's really common around here. At the moment there's just two of us but there are families with a couple of kids living in identical flats in our block. Our flat is not considered unusually small at all. I've taken the sleeper to London a couple of times and it's great. It's two bunks per compartment though so if you're travelling alone then you usually have to share with a stranger which can be mildly disconcerting, depending on the stranger in question. Sleeper Car Chic |

Quite a lot of minor Royals live there too. The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, the Duke and Duchess of Kent, Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, Prince Harry, Zara Phillips. It's not as if they'll have the place to themselves. Prince William & Kate's Palatial New Home Design News 6.7.2011 |

A couple of these chairs with a small table between them ? Definitely NOT a church pew; they are very cliched. What Can I Put In This Space? |

I like the bookshelves and the subtle minty green of the fireplace but there's an awful lot of very ORANGE wood going on in that house. Howard Bragman's Contemporary Laurel Canyon Home House Tour |

I love the sideboard and I love the chairs. I think he's right to switch to a round table in that space but he picked the wrong round table. It's really heavy and clunky looking. Rearranging a Small Dining Room for the Biggest Impact |

I dream of whole walls of bookshelves but these don't really do it for me. They seem too higgledy-piggledy and the books stacked up on their sides is a particular bugbear of mine. How do you easily access the ones of the bottom of the stack if there's half a dozen heavy coffee table books on top of it. Organized Chaos: Tidy Homes With a Lot of Stuff |

In the UK, most people have their washing machine and dryer in the kitchen. If it's a big house, then they'll have a separate utility room. I've never seen a washer/dryer in a bathroom before but it does make logical sense. Most bathrooms over here are far too small to accommodate anything other than bath/sink/toilet though. My parents have one very similar to the third one and it works just fine for hazelnuts and brazils. You just screw down gently at first to make sure it grips it and then wind away. No problem. 4 Updated Takes on the Nutcracker |

I would place a largish rectangular dining table in front of the windows, with backless benches on either side that can tuck under the table when not in use or that can be used to sit facing into the room. Ideas for Living Room Arrangement? Good Questions |

Photo 6 illustrates a real problem I have with a lot of flats we've viewed in Glasgow - asymmetric alcoves flanking the fireplace. I know it's silly but I have an almost visceral reaction to off-centre fireplaces/windows etc. I've been trying to figure out if there's some way to deal with them sort of having the alcoves plasterboarded up and hidden completely.
