i actually saw those chairs in person a few weeks back and...

1) they're brown (they kind of look grey in the photos)

2) the new upholstery job is pretty shoddy (there's stuffing peeking out through some bad seams)

just a forewarning to anyone interested...

we try and get anything bigger than 5" with the little hand broom, but inevitably we miss a few. so i need something that won't clog when a few random bigger bits get sucked up! we've been looking into shop vacs but there is such a huge variety the process is daunting! (thanks!)

anyone have suggestions for a house with rabbits? which means little (and not so little) bits of hay everywhere, including the carpet (i.e., not so easy to sweep)? we go through vacuums annually and are willing to spend some serious money on a new one if we know 1) it can handle the hay, and 2) it will last.

many thanks for any recommendations!

huh. why did i never think of purchasing thinner hangers to fit more clothes into my tiny closet?

thank you!

i agree with the garden option - we have the same situation and just spoke with our landlord about putting a garden box in the front yard, since it gets lots of light. she actually loved the idea, and we'll be building it ourselves out of reclaimed materials!

i've had several friends with EXTREMELY affectionate iguanas, who snuggle into even strangers' hands to be pet. just sayin'.

i have house rabbits, and i adore them. that said, they are a lot of work and can be incredibly destructive to homes if you don't properly "bunny proof" - i.e., don't buy wooden furniture, cover all baseboards, no long-pile carpet, and hide all the cords! check out www.rabbit.org if truly interested. they are amazing animals, but not for everyone.

wait! wait! what did you find out? because i've been tooling around that site and don't see a diagnosis for strangly and shuddery refrigerator noises - and we have the EXACT same problem!

huh... we've never had a problem just pulling the stuff apart. but if you want to re-assemble (and not just dump) the furniture, i suppose you do need the instructions at the other end of things. ;)

definitely pull down those blinds... and may i recommend cost plus world market for inexpensive, beautiful curtains? plain or patterned, it's where we always find exactly what we're looking for!

(after? a stop at target for curtain rods that match!)

i prefer sleeping under quilt & sheet, but quilts are so much more difficult (and expensive) to keep up... with multiple pets in the house, they get dirty, or torn, and you just simply have to replace them after a year or so. so this weekend we're actually switching to duvet, although i'm insisting on a light one - if i'm too hot when i sleep, i have nightmares!

(and i know this is SO hypocritical with the "expensive" note above, but i couldn't help myself - and had a friend bring over an orla kiely duvet cover from london!)

i totally agree with folk who have noted it's probably best not to pack and transport your electronics yourselves - especially the flat screen tv. we made this mistake during our last move - and we have a dead pixel now. why did we think we'd do a better job than the movers in protecting our precious stuff? *sigh*

our refrigerator shutters audibly and physically at the end of its cooling cycle. it terrifies our house guests until we tell them what it is! (and yes, we know - probably time to replace. but we're renting...)

and the door to the back patio doesn't have a knob. you have to be sure to dead-bolt the door on the other side of the laundry room!

even if you live in southern california, make sure the heater works. we just moved a few months ago, and when the temperature dropped to 35F this week, we found that our little wall unit puts out so little heat you can place your hand on top of it when it's on "high". ha.

flannel and fleece jammies anyone?

we got our disc two weeks ago and i'm in love. the HD streaming is beautiful - close to blu-ray quality - and there's so much available. we're not a couple who needs to watch brand-new episodes the week they air, and right now, netflix is all we need!

I'm going through this right now - and Target has a 6' foldable buffet table on sale for $32 this week! Folds up nice and small for storing... And with a nice tablecloth, your guests won't even know it's a plastic folding thing!

Cost Plus World Market also has fantastic wooden folding chairs for $10 a pop right now...

down for the count with the flu now too, and i even got my regular flu shot this year... so likely h1n1. the boyfriend has been super-paranoid about not getting it too so we've been sleeping in separate rooms, washing sheets and towels often, and i've been scrubbing my hands every time i pass a sink. may i suggest separate hand towels if you currently share?

everyone at work has been coming in sick... and i'm sure i caught this at the office. you can hear people hacking down the hall and blowing their noses. so may i add... DO NOT go to work while you're still contagious. err on the side of caution. unless something absolutely horrible will happen if you don't show up, stay home - you'll be increasing productivity in the long run, because fewer folk will fall ill!

1. that prom dress spam is amazing!

2. i have recently discovered tuberoses at my local farmer's market. i really hope no illegal immigrants are picking them for horribly low wages because i can't help but buy them every week, the natural perfume is SO amazing. a couple stems in the living room and a couple in the bedroom, and our house smells amazing!

i second bernat... when my boyfriend and i moved in together, we went for space not neighborhood - and a year later, we moved again. the house was lovely and spacious and everything we could want, but we couldn't WALK anywhere, it was incredibly hot in the summer, and we just hated life living there!

the boy works from home - it's possible to find decent space in nice neighborhoods that allow for it. you might just have to sacrifice the marble countertops!
