Tools, by nature, serve a specific function. They have already been "designed" - to be the best tool for the job. I have never understood the urge to make tools look like something else. Who cares what color their screwdriver is?

Not trying to be snarky, but if you wanted something modern why did you buy an old couch? Also, how does painting it black give it a "brighter feel"? Trying to turn old furniture into "modern" furniture usually just ends up looking like neither.

To throw another log on the fire...

To many of us, celebrating the Solstice is most definitely not "secular." The Solstice _is_ a religious holiday for me.

I am not Christian. My Christmas tree is 12' tall and covered in red and blue lights. I love having a living tree in my home to keep me company through the longest night. It reminds us that spring will return.

Thank you, Ms. Pea. I never realized coats and purses were considered so filthy. It would never occur to me. Plus, it's the outside of a coat touching the outside of the bedspread. Presumably people are not taking their gross purses and coats and tucking them in between your sheets, nestled up to your pillow. When I entertain, the last thing I think about is weather or not someone's purse is besmirching my sterile bed.

I live in Minnesota, where coats are heavy. I would worry that it would be too much weight for a shower curtain. Those rods are not designed to hold much weight, especially across such a wide span. I can just imagine the whole thing crashing down into the tub. And the cat making a lovely bed out of the mess.

jumpyfroggy -I believe the tags on the first and third photos are switched; the "bowl" is glazed - it's a coaster to put the bottle in so as not to drip on the table. The first photo, the strange hollow pitcher thing, is the decanter.

Our cat Artemis thinks we purchased the Barcelona chair just for her. She gets huffy when people sit on it.

We tried the egg-mushroom-polenta last week. While it tasted very good, I felt it needed something of a different texture. Everything in it is so mushy.

Also made the cool & spicy pork tacos w/ avocado sauce - delicious! Definitely making it into our regular rotation. My only comment with this dish...I don't know that I'd categorize it as "simple" to prepare. It took two pans, a food processor, several rounds of chopping, etc. etc. None of these things are bad, it's just that when I think of "quick and simple" meal prep it usually only involves one pan.

We have used the Ikea rails for their sliding fabric panels (http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/30079370) to hang a large poster in our living room. For such a large map you'd need several rails on the top and bottom, but the top pieces have holes you can run wire through instead of attaching them to the Ikea rails. It's an inexpensive way to get the schoolhouse look without dealing with a dowel.
