I LOVE THIS HOUSE TOUR. I don't think love is even a strong enough word. Jules and Henry... are my people... from the vintage Transformers, the ceramic owls, the pets, the couches, the colors, the TV cabinets all the things that are in my house....what a great refreshing personal "connection" to an AT House Tour THANK YOU

I am not fussed by the lack of "in house" amenities. BUT if we are to assume that the door opposite the sofa is infact a secret portal to the bathroom of wonder and the end of everyone's misery... Unless Luke is matchstick thin.. then how does he open the door while the bed is in-situ? as the hinges are on the side of the door we can see... so it opens INTO the room...

Maybe the door is actually a stargate and he goes through it to another planet to cook and go potty... oh but really it doesn't matter as teh contest is about Small Cool Homes... and if Luke doesn't need a toilet or a kitchen INSIDE his apartment then let him bake cakes elsewhere!

kudos on the bed! and I too am wondering where the books live :(

patrick (the other one):: ME TOO!!!

and I loved this episode of 9 By Design... i ADORE the fact that the monstorous desk ... has drawers on the OPPOSITE side to where you "approach" and i say approach b'cause i mean really... howdo you SIT at a curved countertop without your pens sliding off.... and for the size, one can only pressume that you get some sort of training session in how to effectively use your new workspace?? includng some sort of zero-gravity experiement and de-polarizing body scrub....
I do appreciate the aesthetic... but it doesn't match my design sensibility..... as i find it rather lacking in sensibility... and sense for that matter.

In general, I love the idea of living phthalate, chemical, irritant and bacteria free. However I feel hindered by the sheer amount of articles that focus on the DON'TS and not the things that we CAN do... I know alot of people who feel the same as me... I want to see articles that say " Have you thought about changing your blah blah lately... here are some allergy free blah blahs ..... how great are they!" rather than things like "chances are your blah blah is making you sick... bad you.. very bad you..." I am glad to see that this article has appeared and is doing a good job at it. :D

I envision this being and amazing space... I would be replacing the top panels with insulated glass or something... HUGE whopping skylight type thing... and then add a mezzanine across half of the dome for the bedroom/s

I do like however the idea of having a CUBE on the back... or maybe two cubes one on either side... one for kitchen etc and the other for facilities...
OR what if the cubes where built into the cube on opposing sides... on stilts if you will at the TOP of the cube, so you had stairs to climb around the inside to get to the bedrooms ?? i think that would be awesome.. Imagine a staircase spiraling around the edge of the dome with a sort of mezzanine landing form which you entered the bedrooms...

the mind is buzzing with ideas.

Well.. I HAVE a microwave. Having just re-arranged most of my kitchen to accommodate a new fridge, I have now located the microwave (unplugged) on top of the tallest cupboard in the kitchen. I do not remember the last thing I did in the microwave..

Apart from look at it thinking, Why... Why do I own you... AHH now I remember, because you were a gift... (truth be told I would have preferred undies and socks!)

nope. not me. Can't view 3D, don't want to view 3D and yeah .. thats about it really.

I have a particular eye issue that means I (despite EVERYONE telling me that the new technology means I can...) am unable to view 3D films etc.

I think however even if I was able to .. my answer would be the same... I do not think I would bother....

As someone who sells exhaust fans and bathroom heater/light combinations for a living, I am fascinated by the way this conversation is growing. I hope to see more comments as the days progress... it gives me more of an insight into what people life.

Tradesmen, tend to go for the basic unit, because there are no fiddly installation techniques required and its something they have done a thousand times before.... but as we move towards sleeker finishes and people become aware of how ugly things CAN look... almost every customer says to me.. "i want to not know that the fan is there...."

In Australia, trends in bathroom exhaust are not steaming ahead (pun intended) as fast as they are in the rest of the world, so we seem to be at a standstill. However.. the one thing that people are moving towards from a power consumption point of view is multi room ventilation. Where they use an inline fan and a multi-room duct system similar to central heating. The advantage of this, is that all you get on your cieling/wall/shower cavity is a small-ish grill... which would even be custom made.. or re-purposed from other fittings.

I tend to draw people away from a fan/light combination when ever possible as typically (based on cost and mfgr limitations) the fans are not as high in quality as you are mostly paying for aesthetics so it is nice to see some (relatively) attractive options are emerging.

i like the idea of the double dipped stock method! (much more than i would ever consider leaving a chicken in post-boiled water.... ) By no means am I questioning its effectiveness by the way, so I hope no-one is offended by my questions on bacteria.. i would just never leave a chicken to cook like that here in Sydney. :D

I am going to make a variation on this one tonight methinks! I just love the freshness of the Hainanese flavours.

I cannot stop looking at this house tour.. I think I showed it to everyone I know last night. Reeeeealy adore the colour combo in the living area... and that green in the bedroom is amazing.

Inspiring! (as we live in a unit with an obscure floorplan also!)

@ICThomas ... I am concerned by this method of cooking, and the fact that you are letting the chicken cook in water that will only stay at a decent heat for a short time. I am struggling to NOT think of this boil and turn off the heat method as a factory for Bacteria.... hmmm does anyone know the science behind this method ??

If you are replacing all of the other "bathroom appliances" you should replace it with something you will be happy with!

Should I Reuse this Bathroom Vanity? Good Questions | Apartment Therapy New York
3/4/10 7:27 PM

no. in short... and in LONG.. NO....

but if I was to... my I would ensure my masking was perfect before committing the brush to the wall.

If that were my Bathroom.. I would have continued the Blue theme and maybe do a mixture of Blue tones.... rather than this Joseph inspired fixup...

BUT the person who uses the bathroom likes it this way .. and that is what is important here!
