You can cook tomatoes in a cast iron skillet as long as your pan IS seasoned well, but definitely not before that. Even on a "pre-seasoned" skillet.

I always, always roast chicken in my skillet. It's also perfect for stir fries (who needs a wok?) and pretty much any meat. Cooking in cast iron is very different from cooking in anything else (for example, it retains heat much better than most other materials), so it can take some getting used to.

I think not blending the sauce would have to make a big difference. It would be like adding orange juice verses chopped up oranges. Mine was pretty flavorful and had a great spicy flavor.

Since posting, I've used some of the frozen liquid in a chili to add easy flavor. It was amazing.

The only reason AT does these "contests" is to drum up membership for their $ite; if you somehow thought these were fair or truly based on the "best" design, you really need to learn a few things about the interwebz.

That said, I love Dana's blog and the nursery, and I hope she wins.

Made this for a crowd, and it was perfect. I thought it was going to be too dry, since it was a little when I tasted it as I pulled...but then I poured some of the juice over, as instructed. That made ALL the difference. I also left in a little of the fat, for safety. Maybe a teaspoon or so.

And yes, it does seem like a lot of liquid, but you can save anything you don't use.

I know, I know, I felt bad for my snippy comment after I posted it. I do wish Apartment Therapy allowed you to delete comments for when you're having a bad day and blurt out something uncharitable. Aaaaand I'm moving on, now.

To be clear, I have nothing against Bower Power, and I'm sure she's awesome, but her blog is definitely a home- or family-focused blog, not DIY. In addition, it wouldn't have NEARLY the following it does without regular features on YHL. I'm sad that blogs like A Beautiful Mess toil (wonderfully) in relative obscurity while what is really a fun and cute family blog gets readjusted in the blog world as a DIY blog because it's closely tied with an actual DIY-focused blog.

Sorry for the poorly-chosen wording (ah, internet communication)! Her blog is not for me, but I do think it's great.

I tend to despise MCM, and this is on the verge of being sparse to me. However, on the subject of color, this definitely gets my vote. It's a beautiful room, if not exactly cozy. I think it could be more inviting with another comfortable-looking chair, maybe? Whatever, I still like it as is.

I'm really surprised that shabby chic is still a thing. It's faux, fussy vintage that's more expensive than a lot of vintage pieces....

I do wish you'd been able to take all the pictures so that the color was true, as in the last photo. The green is just a little overwhelming, and it hurts my eyes a little. Glad you like it, though!

I'd like to do something similar (in aqua), but will it look weird if the rest of the trim doesn't match?

This probably sounds ridiculous, but I just realized: my hallway is chartreuse! I just picked a nice yellow-y green that went well with the teal/french vanilla/brown of the rest of the downstairs.

I think I love it even more, now (especially since I called it baby poo green after the first coat).

I've been to a LOT of rock shows, and I can tell you that most of the people who are there for the music (as opposed to those who are there to be seen) are not wearing blacks, reds, or studded belts. This definitely appears to be the home of someone inspired by music, with a definite cool vibe as opposed to someone trying hard to be eclectic.

Anyway. There's at least one in every thread on AT.

Very nice! I love seeing a home inhabited by music lovers. :) I assume those are framed albums in the living room area? I don't remember seeing any clustered like that...I like it.

@3twentysix: I use the Retro Camera Android app. It's pretty awesome, and it has a lot of different camera styles.

Love all these ideas!!! I never thought about doing anything more with my pics than posting them on Facebook. :)
