Too 80s? I thought the 80s were back? For a renter it is a great way to provide a wamer light to an area than the usual generic lighting in place (I have a horrific flourescent monster in my kitchen.). I think the available track lighting options today are great options, and I think it is still a relevant choice. it may not be everyone's taste, but I think it makes this kitchen look wonderful. And thanks for the step by step, I think I might tackle this soon.

LOVE LOVE LOVE it! You have great style, and what is so funny, your description of your style, "youthful tradition" is almost exactly what I said in class regarding my own tastes and style. Love that, I love taking classic shapes and freshening them up. I love your dining chairs. Beautiful place!

I never knew that about ants and cucumbers. I will have to give that a try. Every summer I have a major ant infestation in my kitchen, and I have tried everything to naturally repell them. One year it was baby powder, and one year fresh sage, and yet they kept coming. I don't want poisens, and like you, have a real problem killing anything living (spiders always get a personal escort out the door, down the stairs, and into the bushes outside.).

The shades are way off on the first set of lamps, and is it just me or does the base look brass? Other then those two minor issues, I LOVE the shape of these lamps.

It looks OKAY. I like the dining area (without the trash can of course) but other then that, it's okay. Nothing about it says "retro Hollywood" and Marilyn and Audrey, as wonderful as they were, are licensed and merchandised to death. The 'artwork' is fine for a college student, but nothing here would make me think "Hollywood"

Pretty decent for the entire place being cobbled together from Goodwill though.

I thought the frame around the thermostat would be a nifty idea when I was looking at the pictures.

I love what you have done with the oddly sized photos. I have a ton of old photos that are impossible to frame (or so I thought) because they are such odd sizes. I love what you have done with the tiny picture in the large frame, and how the picture just seems to float. Nice work!

I LOVE the mannaquin!! I have one myself, Mannaquinna is her name, and she is a great addition to my home decor. She gives the place color and makes you say "huh?"

Honestly, Vegas and Henderson are dull dull dull places. Jen did a great job with what she had to work with, structure wise. There are a few fantastic mid-century mod houses here, but they are becoming fewer and far between to find, and what few are left are often in skeezy/skectchy areas, so most of what we have to work with here is dull cookie-cutter houses. Jen did a fabulous job injecting a little personality in what would be a very bland house otherwise.

The apartment from Three's Company was definitly a huge influence on me. Like many fans of the show I was obsessed with the "Life" poster of a woman with butterfly wings that hung next to the window, by the plant stand. Their apartment was definitly budget friendly, and comfortable.

The I Dream of Jeannie house was fabulous, I loved that the interiors changed from season to season (with never any explanation) but it always looked very nice. Tony had great taste. It was masculine and modern.

I did the same with a similiar chair I found in the trash. It was a a hot battered mess when I found it.

Yours looks great! Good job!

My sofa is my biggest place holder. An ugly, "pleatherette" monster. Not at all my taste, but I needed a sofa, and scored it for a low low price, otherwise I would go with-out before purchasing. Even pieces I find in the trash I consider wants over place holders, as if I don't like it, or don't see the potential, it will stay in the trash. I've gotten a lot of good pieces from the trash, people don't know what they are throwing away!!

I am the same with lamps. I love them. And lamp shades. I have a closet full of lamp shades.

I had a friend who helped me move and he was surprised I still had lamps. According to him no one has lamps anymore. Funny, I never got that message, and apparently that memo didn't come to Apartment Therapy either....
