When I lived in Finland our house had bathrooms similar to this. One was a shower with a drain, next to the sink, and the toilet on the far side, all in a row. It was set up properly, so even if someone had just used the shower the only water outside the shower curtain was whatever was on their feet or dripped off when they came out. But a little rug fixes that.

The other bathroom had a floor drain AND a tub! It was a open-style tub, like a clawfoot without the fancy feet. (water could drain under it) Cleaning it was SO easy. I sprayed cleaning solution on all the dirty stuff and using the tub sprayer, hosed down the entire bathroom. Then I would leave the window open so it would dry out by itself.

It was awesome.

I am SO tired of trying to buy one of these! I need one for my bathroom because there is no storage space (other than the windowsill) but the medicine cabinet mirror overlaps the wall space above the toilet...and it overlaps exactly where pretty much every single over-toilet standing shelf would reach! Every single one I've found that goes over the toilet is over 53 inches. I need one LESS than that! Gah!

And yes, there is no other place in the bathroom for a shelf. And no, you can't pile things on the toilet tank because it's not flat! Can't hang a shelf on the wall, not my house...

Sorry for the rant. lol.

I like the Miami and Phoenix ones, they seem to give you a sense of the landscape instead of a picture of a single building. D.C.'s print is terribly boring! There's so much more to the city than the tops of the same old monuments.

One thing people don't realize (or choose to ignore) is that D.C. has a large, constantly growing population of immigrants from places that never get snow.

Two, D.C. also has a large, rotating population of diplomats also from countries where it doesn't snow.

So even if the locals get their heads straight and deal with the snow, you have to remember that huge numbers of people aren't lucky enough to have any snow experience.

Heck, I grew up in the area and I have driven in snow a grand total of three times. Once, I hit ice and crashed into a curb, the other two were this winter and I just drove on my snowy street to get to the cleared secondary roads.

I don't use any de-icer because if you shovel to the pavement the sun melts away whatever is left, and almost always melts it so well the pavement actually dries out. (if the sun comes out that is) Then I just have to watch out for any draining-melted-then-froze-overnight-ice-patches if I leave early in the morning.

I don't think people save any more resources by buying a potted Christmas tree than someone who buys a cut tree and then mulches it. Live trees are raised and transported using the same chemicals and energy as cut trees. The only difference is if the live trees are put into plastic pots or not.

Garden centers usually sell them. I used to work at the Meadows Farms stores and they sold them but I don't know if they still do. You can probably check their website.

And I agree with redbeard. We sold hundreds of real trees every Christmas and ALL OF THEM were from tree farms, grown specifically as Christmas trees. It's not like companies are driving into parkland and chopping down "wild" trees in the forest. Buying live Christmas trees is no different than buying a chicken breast an ear of corn.

I'm not a big fan of books organized by color because I like them all jumbled up, but I organized my closet by color one day, just for the heck of it, and never went back. It looks SO much more organized and neat!

It sounds like "eco-friendly" just means it's made of all-natural materials. But that doesn't mean it's good for the environment...

If by "sweet-savory" you mean "eat dessert and the main course at the same time, even off the same plate" then yes, I like sweet-savory combinations. :-)

Unless you have some NEED to have a water bottle available to you at every second, I'd ditch the bottles. Airports have water fountains for layovers, and on the plane, flight attendants will give you water for free whenever you want. NOT having a full water bottle in your carry-on makes a huge difference when you're hoofing it around airports too.

Also, I never take food on long haul flights and I never get hungry because I eat whatever they offer and it's usually more than enough. But I'm pretty small so bigger people might need snacks. :-) And if you ask before the flight, they can give you a vegetarian option if you're trying to eat healthier.

I don't understand. What difference does it make, especially if you are eating indoors? Here in Honduras, we eat tortilla soup year-round! And this area isn't exactly known for its cool, fall weather.
