We don't exchange gifts with every family member, friend, co-worker in our lives. It's too costly and stressful. Over the years we've given more gifts than we've received, family + friends who say they'll drop by + exchange gifts DON'T these we save in the 'gift closet', also in there are gifts we've received that just isn't us.

Apparently I'm the best gift-giver in my circle of friends and both families. My family rule is, gifts on birthdays + weddings, but Christmas gifts are for children only BUT the whole family must be together for Christmas Day Lunch come, rain, hail or shine.

This year we've decided on 3 gifts each for our two children, 1 gift per god-child, 1 gift to each other + money gifts for our parents (culture). Whoever is hosting Christmas Day Lunch we give a gift too.

The savings generated we put towards a major purchase which is much needed for our home, thanks to Boxing Day Sales.

I used to do all these things before I met my Fiance. Lol. But on a good day my list is: return things to their rightful place, check weather, lay-out kids clothes/items, charge the mobile phone + make lists.

I make a list of things To-Do, Buy, Find (for a very curious 7yo son). I would like to say 'Just Google it' but I don't want our son to think I don't know myself or I'm ignoring him.

Wow I've picked up some great gift ideas here! Especially the simplehuman trash can, iron with retractable cord, headlamp (reading in bed) and heated mattress pad.

Last year I received a sewing machine, but after the baby I didn't get a chance to use it. This year I've asked for (refresher) sewing lessons + craft books. I will be enrolling my Fiance in Writing courses as a surprise. He loves to write in his 'spare time'.

if you don't think this entry fulfills the criteria of the competition why comment on it? take it up with the creators of the competition. there are different categories of "space" + this is where julia's entry is deemed to be appropriate by the creators.

julia, i really liked the use of the space as i've never been in/lived in an A-line home. i would love to wake up to an environment like this!

you have my vote, goodluck.

i really like that your house is not modern and 'stark' that nature plays a part too.

can you please tell me about the stainless steel dresser next to your daughter's paintings? cheers

Maybe try something you're always putting off, so by the evening you're exhausted and don't think about a wasted Sunday. I keep recipes from magazines, newspapers, blogs/sites, friends + family so on Sundays I pull out my 'box of shame' and try it, even if it's only once.

This is a lovely home for all your treasures, but honestly? If I walked through it I'd have to buy something.

I love scandinavian style esp when it's teamed well with another style like this. I also liked the phrase 'reformed minimalist' as I think editing plays a large part in bringing two styles together. Something I need to do in my own home :)

I love the Brownstone architecture but also how people live in them! I hate how some people gut it out to turn into a super-modern-studio without individuality or personal touches.

This Brownstone home tells me that real people live in it and that's why I enjoy your style.

If you are a serious seller and you want to be different from any other Yard Sales in your area, you will need to 'theme' it. This sounds "girly" but it works! If you're re-decorating your entire home and most of these items have a specific theme (eg. Country, Retro, 80's, Art Deco etc) then you can call it a 'Country Sale'. The point of this is to highlight the features/setting of your Yard Sale and it will attract like-minded buyers (okay, mostly women). Even 'Moving Sale' or 'Renovation Sale' works. Calling it a Yard Sale will only attract people wanting next to nothing yet you want a tidy profit to go towards new furniture etc. Get together with family & friends to sell their unwanted items of similar theme.

First, make a summary of all the items you are selling then go to your nearest bargain shop AND second-hand shop and note the prices if you bought it as new or seconds. Then price your item using these two prices as a scale (depending on it's condition).

For bigger items (beds, sofas, fridge, dryer etc) check online auctions like ebay and find how much your item can be priced from & to (depending on it's condition)... or place the price you want & include 'Or Near Offer'.

Lastly, the items that aren't selling too well, move to a pile you can group as '5 for $4.00' or 'Make an offer'.

Goodluck!
