Also, I'm always surprised at the judgmental comments people feel comfortable leaving. If you don't like what he did, then make a mental note not to replicate it for your own home, and move on to the next post. warponey -- yes, it is a challenge. watch an episode & you'll understand. Plus, its funny and gratifyingly honest (makeovers are done on an often EXTREME budget as the show will only match the amount the family makes at their garage sale, so the results are often not that chic).

Bonus = It's not depressing like the Hoarders show. That show is painful to watch... so I don't. :)

Weird. And the heads remind me of the large (& creepy) brass animal-head belt buckles my grandma used to wear when I was young. They had red marble eyes that were eye level to mine and seemed to stare at me when she would pull me in for one of her many overly tight hugs... *shudder*

Anyhow, back to reality: I wish they had included pics of the molding installed in an actual room. I'm curious as to how it would look -- would be distracting? or would it add an interesting texture/layer to the room?

I'm lucky enough to have a bedroom window that faces the woods surrounding my apt building. So since there are no annoying outside lights to bother me, I leave my blinds open at bedtime so I can get a huge dose of the morning sun to help get my night-owl-self out of bed at a reasonable hour.

In my dream home I would have an automated blind system that opened 30 minutes before my alarm was set to go off. But for now, I just turn off the lights, fling open the blinds and hope no peeping toms are around...

Maybe b/c they are organically grown, there is a natural variation in the cotton grown from crop to crop -- you know, making some crops softer than others? idk, just a thought.

I've felt some of those organic sheets in the store and thought they were very scratchy, maybe I should go test them out again... For years tho, I have had their jersey sheets and absolutely love them! Super-soft and wrinkle-free!

I am extremely absent-minded and have a relatively hectic schedule, so the landing strip concept is the only way I am able to reliably locate my keys, wallet/purse and sunglasses on a daily basis.

I agree that the landing strip is not the ideal decorating situation, but it exists out of necessity -- not because I am lazy! Please save your judgmental & overly-rigid decorating rules for your own home, Ms. Pea.

Frankly, I'm a bit appalled at your openly hostile comment, Ms. Pea, and I wonder how your rudeness is not perceived as a flaw equal to or greater than laziness to you? I would much rather visit a messy, lazy polite person's home than the immaculate home of an angry and superior-acting person. Seriously, lighten up.

100% Vintage Modern. Didn't know that's what it was called, but those rooms were definitely my taste!

Oh, and @alice groznyi -- This is a piece of art. Its one-time-use-only is the artistic statement. Granted its a bit eye-roll inducing, but its certainly not meant to be a practical source for lighting your home.

Oh, and a tip for the make-up concerned: Put your make-up on in front of a window, it prevents over application better than anything else.

I discovered this when a past roommate would take hour long showers, preventing me from using the bathroom's incandescent-lit mirror to do my make-up. I couldn't believe the difference natural light made! MUCH easier to see smudges, streaks, judge the right amnt of blush, etc.

Of course, if you have to get ready before the sun rises, then this tip won't work for you...

How about just reversing the pricing? Make it more expensive to waste energy.

I would actually prefer to buy florescent bulbs, but on a student's budget that isn't always possible, so I would love it if the govt. switched the pricing of incandescent w/ florescent bulbs... I just don't want to be forced to spend more money b/c their is no other option.

Also, I *love* my Reveal light bulbs in my bathroom. They are my one indulgence. I haven't found a florescent that can emulate them & it would suck if they were no longer available. Maybe I should stock up on them?
