That first photo is horrifying. Seriously disgusted that AT would even consider using this.

I enjoyed Designene's tutorial. I wonder if a "magic eraser" would do the same job as the pumice stone?
I would only add this: Hot soapy water alone is an amazing cleaning tool. For difficult grime like stoves or ground in winter muck, apply the HSW liberally and just let it soak. Go clean somewhere else. When you get back to the grime you will find it is much easier to remove.
I read this in one of Don Aslett's books years ago and it has served me well.

I have found that hanging the shower rod a bit higher and then adding an "outside the tub" curtain that goes nearly to the floor adds sophistication and a sense of elegance to my tiny bathroom. 84" long window panels are ideal for this.

I buy my bar soap from Monkey Boy products - cold processed goats milk soap. From the Dollar Store I also picked up a suction cup soap holder for the shower. It has a nylon net surface and my goats milk bar has lasted me over a year! Green, Cheap and my skin has never felt better!

Small Changes, Serious Impact

My small house can get very hot quickly. Each morning I draw the curtains across the east facing windows, open the west windows and turn on the fan. along about noon, I turn on the vent/fan from the central heater and the bathroom exhaust fan for about an hour or two. Then I close the drapes over the west windows, open the east windows and move the fan to draw in the cooler air. I leave the windows open all night and on especially stuffy nights I use the fan. As a previous poster said, you do have to be diligent with this routine, but it does work.

My absolute favorite so far! Very real, very charming, and the use of color is spectacular.

NOT a hideous grass green. A lovely bright, summery green that is the perfect counter point in that room. Well done!

Slap small saucepan on stove with about 1 inch of water inside, turn burner on high. Stow all dirty dishes in oven as per above while water is heating. When water boils sprinkle 1-2 tsp cinnamon into it, turn burner down to medium, then wipe down counter tops. Turn burner off, leaving sauce pan in place. Kitchen looks neat as a pin, whole house smells nice! This will cover the strongest odors - guaranteed.

gochrisgo is right!! I bought my sofa from the factory during a special sale held in their workroom. Everything was right there just as the workers had left it the day before: Each piece being fabricated by hand at each work station. Not only was I amazed to find just the sofa I had been looking for at an incredible price, I was blown away by the care and attention to detail I could see in the work in progress. Wonderful company and outstanding sofa!! Love Love!!

I've had a shelter porn addiction since I was 15 and my best friend in high school "hooked me up". Of all the hundreds I've read over the years Met Home and Domino were the hands down favorites. Recently discovered pinterest and am liking it. Don't really like the e-format but I do read Standard, Lonny and Rue as long as I can stand it.
Printed: Cottages and Bungalows, Atomic Ranch, Elle Decor and Real Simple. BTW Ready Made has folded. :-(

On the odd and very rare occasion when I find a Domino at a thrift store or tag sale I feel like I've scored the find of the century. Sadly finding fewer and fewer.
As for the 10 ideas: Was refreshing to hear that voice again extolling the virtues of living with what makes one happy.
As a previous poster said; not sure I'm really feeling that log basket. Perhaps this idea would be better reframed into "add a little rustic into your polish". I can relate as I am looking to add a little rusted metal into my all white living room.
I do sit in my "odd chair" and love it.
all the rest, well lets just say they are going into my idea file under A++!

Rolling on the floor maryaleslie! Maybe try the attic, it's drier and you could install peepholes for your telescope.
I want a sunroom with a fireplace on one end so even on cold rainy days I can be surrounded with nature AND be warm.

Room of Requirement: What's Your Dream "Special" Room?

Had icky old floors in a 60 year old house. Hubby did not want to refinish. Primed and painted them and they were gorgeous....they got neglected and mistreated. I saw them years later: they still looked great! The secret is in the priming! I swear by Zinzer's products.
This is a stunning floor and if it was done right will still be in a year from now or ten....
