Best guest we ever had, always called once he arrived in our city to ask what we'd like from the liquor store, and then would proceed to buy the larger bottle and some snacks for us. Never left his stuff all over. Said thank you and gave my DH and I privacy in the evenings.

Worst guest, helped himself to our liquor - in secret, left his stuff _everywhere!_, wouldn't wear pants, & treated me as his personal maid and complained when after working all day I wanted to spend 30 mins. of alone time with my DH.

First is welcomed with open arms, the second is permanently banned.

I'm organized & tidy as I hate wasting time, I have too little to begin with. And having my place organized in an almost OCD way saves me time when I'm in a rush looking for something... that's my story and I'm sticking to it! :)

@ home body: I sometimes load front to back - it depends - if I have plates they go in the back, but bowls fit better in the front (I have an apt. sized dishwasher (Danby) that I absolutely love!), but certain things fit better in different areas of the dishwasher.

For what it's worth, we have charcoal filters for the covered cat litter boxes, I did a test and removed them, the smell was more noticeable (especially after the litter being freshly used) so there does seem to be something to the charcoal aspect.

Small tip with canned beans, if you cook them in a pot of water, and remove the foam that rises to the top and then add them to whatever you're making = no gas!

my two cents, you plan to be there for 5 years, if it cost you $500 to redo it, and from what jefland said it sounds doable for less, that'd be at most $100 a year, $8.33 a month - frankly that seems worth it to me to not have to look at the hideous tile (and the germaphobe in me thinking about the bacteria that could be growing there). And hey at less than $10 a month, that's certainly cheaper than flowers to brighten up the place.

Oh and sometimes Home Depot does free classes showing you how to tile, etc. so it's definitely worth checking out the one in your area.

Either way, whatever you do will look better than what's there now.

Definitely my favourite house tour!

I absolutely adore the pant rack idea!!! The bathroom sink is really neat and gives the feeling of more space which is crucial in a small bathroom. Also the use of fresh flowers is a lovely touch.

Kittie, I drool at your organizational skills!

Couple of ideas using fabric: you could staple hook & eye tape aka velcro to it and attach the other bit of velcro to the back of door. Other than hemming the sides you wouldn't even need to hem the bottom & top ends that way. Depending on how much sewing you wanted to do.

2nd: If you could take the doors off completely (and have room to store them somewhere -maybe behind the armoires?) you could hang up layers of sheer fabric (making it no longer sheer) using tension rods.

Hope you find a solution and can rejoin 2009 :D
