I couldn't agree more about the slim hangers. It's a clean look and a functional answer to slippage. I always tell my clients to invest in them, they're worth the price.

Keep a shopping bag next to your laundry hamper. When you're done trying on that sweater for the tenth time that you secretly hate and never wear, you can dump it into the shopping bag and finally say good-bye to it. When the bag is full, take it to Housing Works or Good Will.

I definitely agree with all the previous comments especially when it comes to gym clothes. It's like having my very own cheering section in the morning. "Go to the gym, we're all ready to go, all you have to do is put us on!" Also, making my gym outfit as cute as possible (coordinating colors perhaps) is helpful because you'll never know who you'll meet while getting a sweat on.

Do these plants need a lot of light? I'd love to put one in my windowless bathroom.

What a delightful, elegant, thoughtful and cheeky home! When people mention clutter, I am confused. There is no clutter at all in this space. Clutter equals chaos, the inability to make decisions and an overwhelming amount of books, clothing, papers, etc. This home is the opposite of cluttered, it is highly designed to be efficient and space conscious with a place for each item. Every corner is loved and certainly not neglected. Well done, Lorin, and good luck with the sale!
Cheers,
Jeni

I always dream that I have a crazy big apartment on the beach with multiple levels but there is one major drawback in each dream. There's usually a sliding door where my landlady needs to walk through my apartment to get to hers. Or my kitchen is the only one in the building and several people have access to it. Not an ideal set up.

Garnet Hill. Have had them for years and love them so much but now I'm sad to have them clash with my current studio set-up.

I think the painting of Padma is gorgeous but when it comes to Feng Shui and attracting a relationship it's a bad idea. If you're looking for a partner and you believe in Feng Shui and the Law of Attraction, you should keep artwork and photos where you appear solo out of your home. It makes the statement that you're fine being alone. If you are cool with being single then have at it but that's just what the practice suggests. And no, I'm not smoking a bong right now.

AZkathy, that's a brilliant analogy! I often tell my clients that organizing is like working out in many ways:

-It only takes a little bit of time commitment each day to make a big difference in your overall goal
-You sometimes need a buddy to coach you along (or a professional)
-Sometimes you dread getting started but once you're done you feel so much better
-You have to keep up with it or else all the amazing effort you've made will be lost

As a professional organizer I can assure you, Orchid64, that those before shots were not staged. This client is a hoarder and dealing with this disorder involves many psychological, emotional and obviously, clutter challenges.

The after photo shows HUGE improvement. The real question is, how can the client maintain this improved space?

My hat goes off to Denise for having the extreme patience, care and skill to deal with a client who suffers from hoarding. I, myself, have realized that working with hoarders is not within my scope as an organizer. We all have challenges in life and thankfully there are professionals to help us along the way.

I hate to be a Debbie Downer but I need to spread the word about the owner of Urban Outfitters (a place where I've bought many, many products). For those of you who don't know, the owner is a strong supporter of Prop 8 and has other unfriendly political views (to left-thinking folks, anyway). I know this isn't a political site and I normally don't air my beliefs in inappropriate settings but for most of us gay and gay-friendly people, this is bad news when it comes to good bargain shopping and fun home goods. Just something to keep in mind the next time you step inside an Urban O store (and, unfortunately, Anthropologie).

Kyle,
What a lovely tribute to your brother. Thank you for sharing such an intimate part of your life.

I have a beautiful wooden hand fan with a yellow tassle that belonged to my grandmother. It's such a simple object but it reminds me of my grandmother's love for the theater, her own dramatic flair and her feminine. old school style. It makes me smile everytime I pass by.

Happy Holidays
