Are you kidding me? Toddlers love that Fisher Price rotary phone. My three year old still drags it around and we pretend to make phone calls to the president and the grandparents. My older girls are getting Lincoln Logs this year also. Classic Toys That Never Go Out of Style Apartment Therapy Gift Guide 2012 |

@ MCGRATHINNOLA - YES!!! Great perspective and I think you are 100% right. Great post, Elisabeth! Obviously a lot of feeling about this on both sides. And I wish the crabbies would keep their comments to themselves. Remember what we learned in Kindergarten: If you can't say anything nice... Well, you know the rest. We have a Hovas from Ikea and after many couch failures this one seems to be a win. It was inexpensive (yay!) and it's comfortable. The cushions seem to be holding their shape (after a year of use) and the white slipcovers bleach out like nobody's business. Also I have a 2nd set of slipcovers ($50, again, yay!) that we can rotate in when the others are drying. And, if I get really tired of the white, I can always buy a set of navy blue slipcovers. I do wish there were more color options, like say, a charcoal grey slipcover, and now regret not buying a sectional, but it works for us. I can see us using this couch for a long time. No Where the Wild Things Are? That's very surprising. Your list of essential kids books is very different from mine. Goodnight Moon, Where the Wild Things Are, Olivia, Brown Bear Brown Bear, Winnie the Pooh stories, No, David, Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus; Dr. Seuss and Amelia Bedelia for our five year old and lots of Sandra Boynton for the toddler. My eight year old went through a heavy Magic Treehouse phase, but we are reading the Little House series now, and I hope to start her on Madeleine L'Engle and Louisa May Alcott soon. What a great idea! I know this is a cooking site, and I should say that I cook a meal to take to new parents, but the truth is, I usually hit up Costco before visiting friends and relatives with new babies and deliver chicken alfredo, a big bag of salad, giant muffins and fruit. Love it, fantastic job! Love that they demo'd the soffit. The thing I really hate about tract houses these days are all the unnecessary soffit's and niches and pass through windows, etc. Before & After: Sophisticated Master Bedroom Makeover |

Also, having professionally mounted kitchen cabinets on the wall is FAR different than mounting a bookcase to the studs in your drywall. And sometimes, even cabinets fall. I had a laundry room cabinet come right off the wall at me. IKEA Expedit, Rejiggered IKEA Hackers |

I'm so tired of seeing the complaints about tacky baby bouncers. The period of time when you need them is so short, get over it. Not everything can be modern minimalist. Do Non-Hideous Baby Bouncers & Swings Exist? Good Questions |

My problem with buying off of Craigslist is mainly the prices. Craigslist sellers often ask laughable amounts of money for used items. Today on our local Craigslist: a set of used Lincoln Logs for $40. That's MORE than they cost new at a seller like Amazon. Gifts From Craigslist: Score Or Scandalous? |

As each one of my girls was born I ordered those petite, elfish looking stockings from PB and had them personalized. They are traditional colors and super cute. But I also love stockings that have the names spelled out in glitter glue, because that's what we had as kids. Where Do You Stand On Stockings? Reader Survey |
