This is a great recap, Chris. Thanks for the thoughtful post about CES and the industry.

Can anyone identify the chairs (leather shell with chrome tri-legs) in the main image? I am in love.

There seems to be something strange happening with the voting form. I can only select 2 of the 3 options, and unfortunately, the one I would like to select is the one that can't be selected.

Ha! I didn't realize so many people felt this way. I much prefer the bottom floor- it allows me easy access to the yard so I can take my dog out whenever (without trudging up/down multiple flights of stairs) and it gives me the freedom to bang around whenever the urge strikes. I don't have to worry about treading lightly when no one is under me.

Also, it makes moving in and out far easier. I suppose I should be appreciative to those like NCKat who are so thoughtful about making noises; I've never had any problems with my upstairs neighbors.

If I remember correctly from my college woodworking class, you sand in between coats of stain (and polyurethane and other finishers) in order to raise the grain of the wood, which allows for a deeper and more even absorption of whatever product you will then rub or brush in.

Am I missing something? I remember seeing photos of this home on AT's recent AirBnB post: http://www.airbnb.com/rooms/17891. It says it is 750 sq ft and located in Hong Kong?

Just what I wanted to know Runemistress! I prefer sponges but don't have a microwave or dishwasher to clean them in and have always wondered if a washing machine would cut it.

Thanks for the link pivaroni. I came to say the same thing; as I was reading the article, I kept getting caught up at the references to the company as a specific woman.

Came back to this page to see how the results were shaping up and was a bit disappointed.

@Renee4235..the rod I saw at BBB did indeed 'rotate'. So again, the idea is indeed clever but not remotely original. In my opinion (and seemingly some of the others on this forum), it is also most definitely not worthy of winning a design competition.

Unfortunately, the same biased voting that plagued last year's contest is popping up again. Having friends set up accounts just to repeatedly vote for you and leave misleading comments, while maybe not a huge transgression, really makes the competition feel cheap and useless.

I suppose there is still the saving grace of the judges' votes.

I was wandering through Bed, Bath and Beyond yesterday and stumbled across a whole display of rotator rods. It is a clever design, but it already exists and the submission adds nothing new to it, as far as I know. Can anyone enlighten me?

This is absolutely wonderful. So useful and practical, innovative and original. On top of that, it can be customized for each home. I would like several so that I can deck out my windows without blocking my dog's view outside.

So excellent. I love each piece and have a compelling urge to repeatedly run my fingers across all of their surfaces.

I simply *do not* understand the appeal of the room on the left! I feel so out of the loop... Goodbye Nicole's apartment..it was the last of the finalists (domestic) that I even remotely was impressed by. Such a bummer. I guess there's next year?

Agreeing with the general sentiment. I love the idea of the contest and getting to see all the small home ideas. I don't love how quickly some of the best were eliminated and how boring the finals are. Almost all my favorites are gone! I suppose AT and I have different tastes.... (or there's a fair amount of cheating going on)
