My mom always made all-lard pie crusts when I was growing up though she had to use the stuff at the store. (It seems ironic to me that my grandmother always used Crisco). Nowadays, I order my leaf lard from a butcher. Butter and Crisco crusts just don't do it for me.

Some cookies are meant to be made with lard and are excellent that way - Chinese almond cookies, bizcochitos...

It's a cost that the business has already factored into their prices (that I'm paying for), so to me a return policy is a benefit that I have no problems taking advantage of.

Sometime during the week following New Year's (usually a day or two before trash pickup is scheduled so the tree gets taken).

Whatever. Some people seem to think that any separation of kids and adults is a problem. If a kids table works for some families, so be it.

I would never purposely expose myself to any temperature below 72 degrees. Keeping my house at 61? Never! Different strokes for different folks, though. There are those that love SF and Seattle weather...

On another note, I spent 7 days in South Korea one August with no A/C (even at night) and lost about 5 lbs.

I grew up and have lived in CA most of my life and just discovered Duke's this year. I'm never going back! I love the fact that it's tangy and has no sugar. Can be ordered from Amazon for those not in the South.

I'm on the West Coast - if I had set my clock forward one hour, it wouldn't be light until around 9AM. Yuck. I'd appreciate the extra light in the evening, but not at the expense of going to work in the dark.

As for the "before," I just love it when people keep their trashcans in front of their homes.

Very cute. I adore Spanish style bungalows.

I'll add that fruit flies don't normally bother me, but I apparently have enough now that they'll often buzz around my face when drinking wine.

I've had a fruit fly problem for a few weeks now and neither the plastic wrap over the cup or funnel techniques here worked. I saw up to 6 fruit flies sitting on the outside of the containers, but not one ventured down the funnel or through the holes in the plastic wrap.

Kitchenaid also has a stylish new $600 food processor that comes with 3 different bowls (which means I could get rid of my crappy mini food processor):
