We recently gutted and redid our very small kitchen. We did all of the gutting work ourselves and are currently finishing things like trim. All in I think we are about $22k. The bulk came from cabinetry, appliances and plumbing. Our house is a 1937 and we decided to replace most of the plumbing while the walls were opened. There are definitely ways we could have cut costs with less expensive floors (we used 13x13 porcelain tile, and not getting the higher end cabinets. I saved in things like using the regular bull nose edge on the granite and by purchasing a floor model light fixture.

This is so timely for me. My husband and I were invited to a party for a friend this weekend and then realized we were supposed to bring something to grill and something to drink. We're happy to do so but found it funny, we're in our mid-thirties and the folks throwing the party are recent grads so we had a good laugh reminiscing of those days. And, so less stressful, when we have get togethers we stress for weeks over the menu!

I don't know the first thing about reupholstering but I LOVE the lines of this chair. If you are new to it, I bet you can make it look great from the front, even if there are folds in the back, put it against the wall! I say go for it, and since it was free, I would use something fun and funky! Although, probably easier to use something with a pattern that you wouldn't notice if it was not perfectly straight.

I love the sofa! It is such a good starting point and with all of your other elements being neutral there is so much you can do. Pillows, rug, and, I agree, a longer coffee table will make all of the difference. And the great thing about a neutral couch is that a couple of years from now when you are looking for a new color palette you can keep the couch and swap out the accessories.
With a little sprucing your room will be fab in no time.

I have a similar colored couch and paired it with deeps reds, blacks and whites and I love the contrasts but really you can go in any direction with bold patterns.

Yes! I always have them on hand, I find them to be half the price at Trader Joes than they are at the grocery store and I ALWAYS have them on hand. Great for spicing up a weeknight meal, making dips, pizza, salad, lots of things!

I am so happy you posted these. I just discovered Starbuck's blueberry oat bars and am in love. I have been wanting to make a blueberry pie but I know no one in my house but me would eat it, these seem so much more transportable, I am totally making tonight!

Is this bad, when it is warm outside, I just put it on a plate on my patio (not in the sun but just warm outside) and leave it for a few minutes. The DC humidity usually gets it just perfect in about 15 minutes or so. And by then I usually have my ingredients measured, etc and am ready to start. Love the grater idea though, and the microwave on 10%, I have done short bursts but never thought about lowering the power. Thanks!

Is this the same as Ricotta Ensalata? Or similar? If so, mmmmmmmmmmm, good. And what a nice addition to a light pasta salad.
