@aprilheartsaaron: I love that couch, too. I saw it on AT not long ago and had to have it. I tracked it down at Gus Modern (it's the Jane sectional), but the $3000 price tag stymied me. The Paramount sofa from Blu Dot is, while not a sectional, almost identical and nearly half the price. Since my boyfriend's a big guy, however, I figured the Paramount's single cushion would be sagging within a year. I ended up purchasing the Eugene sofa in Smoke from Room & Board.

Basically, after falling in love with the same sofa you have, I ended up with the Eugene, but only after weeks of research, hand-wringing, and second-guessing. I hope this little synopsis saves you some of that. :)

I'd give my pit bull one week to destroy this precious mahogany set. If she can't finish it off in a week, my parrots and bunnies will.

As a side note, I no longer feel sheepish about purchasing a small flokati rug for my dog and hanging a V (for Violet) above it. The rug fit with the house better than a pad, and she sleeps with us anyway.

Go to http://furrugs.com/asccustompages/116.html for a treasure trove of colored skins. I ordered a hide rug from these folks and it was a great experience.

Good luck!

I'm going to use ideas 4 and 10. I wish could use 14, but I don't trust my fiance to adhere to the "rules," he'll put anything back anywhere, with zero respect for color. Sigh. Idea 13 doesn't make any sense; how can you possibly find what you are looking for?!

I thought those candles were markers! I was thinking, "Oooh, what dainty, pretty little markers" as I was searching for them.

Before moving in with my boyfriend, I was the only person I knew in my age group (mid-20s) who lived alone. Recession or not, San Diego is not an easy place to live, financially speaking.

If that was my bed, I would never ever be able to get out of it.

@AlexanderB: I agree with you. Did you try e-mailing AT? They usually respond fastest that way.

A friend of mine is an immigrant from Hong Kong. She's really, really into baking. Hong Kong is heavily populated, and everyone lives in tiny apartments with their whole family (not quite as teeny as the homes featured here, though). No one has room for an oven, so no one in Hong Kong bakes! Hence, her baking enthusiam.

My bedroom has two dressers -- one is antique and beautiful, the other is fugly and from my college years. The storage is too valuable, so I can't get rid of it till I save up for a proper replacement or thrift a good one.

The too-small rug in the den is tiding me over till after the holiday madness, when I plan to replace it with a proper flokati rug.

I'm living without nightstands, because I refuse to spend money on placeholders, and I can't seem to find ones I like that are affordable.

I love how the dog's jowls are resting in #2. I have a black and white pit bull whose jowls do the same thing (but on a much cheaper couch, natch). No one ever does pit bull art, so I often go with Boston Terrier stuff, since my dog looks like an overgrown BT, minus the buggy eyes.

The upholstery is quite out of my budget--as is the beautiful scarf--and even it wasn't, I imagine it would quickly become an eyesore. But! How cool would it be to have a small, pixelated side table? You could DIY and it wouldn't be too over the top.

Try pulling one of the lighter colors from your rug and paint the moldings, shelves, and bench that color. You could also paint the room a shade from your rug, and paint the moldings, shelves, and bench a nice, crisp white.

For an insta upgrade, replace all those red throw pillows with something in a brighter, perhaps unexpected color. And reupholster the bench, or replace the seating pad with floor pillows.

I like the shape of the coffee table, but maybe it would be happier painted shiny white? Good luck!

I was feeling cabin fever-y just yesterday. So I threw on something cute, did my makeup, leashed up my dog, and headed to the Little Italy district for a fancy latte on an outdoor patio. It was fun to play dress up!

With such a big house, why would they need to make their bedroom an office, too? (This is why movies aren't fun for the people who watch them with me.)

The pennies look cool and are a very creative idea, but it seems high-maintenance. Lots of grime and such building up between the coins.

Sad story: I was in a thrift store that had a vintage arco lamp in near-mint condition for $60. They were cash only, and by the time I'd raced to the nearest ATM and back, they'd already sold it. It haunts me still.
