Very nice.

And happy birthday to your husband. And um, I think it's GREAT that people get married (even *gasp* before they're 105)...didn't know being married was something I was supposed to be ashamed of.

We use scotch tape. The see-through aspect of it makes it non-enticing, and although we've probably forgotten to remove some of it...well...no hotel has never sued us ;-)

Of course, that was with my son, who would have tried to stick anything in an outlet. My daughter is more concerned with buttons and climbing. Scotch tape doesn't fix those.

My dad wallpapered his wall with interesting news stories & ads when he was young. He somehow managed to do it seamlessly and none of them peeled (though they did yellow prettily). As a kid, I LOVED to hang out in his room and read the vintage stories and laugh at the old hair styles. I was so sad when my grandparents died and my parents didn't take over the house - I wanted that room.

All in all, cute.

agree - i love sending / receiving postcards, too. i need to do a better job of corraling them, though - we stick them on the fridge, and i need to transfer them to binder loops like my mom used to do for me.

but i second secret star - don't forget the postcard stamps. it's unbelieveable how many places that sell postcards DON'T sell the stamps - and are no where near a post office. i spent my first four days in new orleans earlier this year trying to track down a stinkin' stamp. finally found a convenience store that would sell me one - at twice the price.

We use the simple ones, too, and I agree - they're SUPER hard to pull out.

My favorites come from IKEA, though - they are even HARDER to pull out than the "regular" safety first or whatever ones, but they have a little red "key" that twists backwards in it to help you get a grip and pull it out.

I'm probably not describing very well - here's the link: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/20098958

That's really fun. But with how fast we go through it, too...I'm not sure I WANT to go to the trouble of making it!! I buy it at WalMart every August - when boxes of Crayola crayons are 25 cents, sidewalk chalk is around 50 cents, and even nice Fiskars scissors are usually not more than a dollar.

Probably not good for the environment or something, but I love that we can stock up on PLENTY of our favorite craft supplies for less than $25!!

super cute. and i've just been thinking recently that i need to get some SMALL glasses like the juice glasses my grandparents used to have. much more appropriate for JUICE for kids than a big tumbler-full.

Thanks, tinamarye, that's so true. I was feeling guilty (since I am, in fact, guilty charged!), but I'm glad that my mom maintained a good relationship with her family. She called & wrote long, involved letters...it was good, but took time.

Of course, plain old web surfing = a much bigger time-waster with less pure motives.

Cool idea, I think. I liked the post a little while ago with a pallet platform bed - I liked that a little more than rubbing up against the edges.

All that said - I love it when moms are creative for their kids, so props for that. And I'm glad to hear she used heat-treated pallets.

That is so sweet of you!! I agree with Carrie in her comments, but would also add: especially with my first baby, I was always so grateful when a secluded nursing nook was offered, especially at the beginning. But as I got more confident nursing I was also super appreciative when people we were visiting would offer a private room for nursing AND say "but we're totally comfortable if you want to feed her/him out here." Sometimes the break in a back room was nice (especially with a fussy baby), but I turned into a pretty public nurser (with a cover), and appreciated when people felt like that was no big deal.

If you REALLY want to go all-out...my parents (and in-laws) keep a pack-n-play at their houses. It's great for naps, but also nice at night - we would put the baby down, and still be able to play a game or hang out and have some adult time.

We're having a no-spend (actually, more of a low-spend) month since our income is reduced about $800/month in the summer. I, too, have been combining it with de-cluttering - it's a LOT easier for me to not spend money when I realize how much stuff I buy and forget about, and/or have to find a new place to put it.

And while it feels nice to think that I'm being patriotic if I spend...I think it's more responsible to not dig myself into a hole of debt.

The picture shown is so cute and I love the ideas mentioned. We have one medium-sized plastic bin in a cupboard that holds less-frequently-used supplies like glitter, googly eyes, , play-doh, finger paints, etc. We have a small bin on a bookshelf that's kind of a catch-all for more frequently used stuff like scissors, stickers, and glue. I use cardboard magazine holders for construction paper, keep a notebook of plain paper beside that, and have 2 pencil boxes - one for crayons, one for markers.

Oh - and my kids (1 and 4) can reach all of the stuff. Luckily, they've been really good about not drawing on walls, and (for the most part) putting it (sort of) away when they're done.

But I still can't get over that picture. I have about 10 small metal buckets left over after my son's strawberry-picking birthday party, and I've been trying to figure out the perfect place for them. Maybe this is it.
