I agree that it looks like the under-designed lame first-time starter home of someone fresh out of dorm-life with little to no budget. I dont like it.

I think it looks like the beginning of a nice apt. theres definitely a point of view in the accessories. Its very realistic, but i do agree.. I personally browse this blog for inspiration from the ideal. This apt has a styling we've seen before but i wouldn't classify the execution as "ideal" but it looks the way my last apt looked when i first started. I think spaces look alot better in the long term when you add pieces over time organically instead of trying to do an HGTV style makeover overnight. I like the idea of this space as i too can get bored with some of the unrealistic rooms i see here, but i think it will improve over time. PLUS lets not forget that its hard to have a fashionable YET baby friendly home and this is very functional for that purpose.

Long shelf along the entire length of the bottom edge of the beam under the skylight window. you could even install a rolling ladder like in a library to access the books.

i bought this mirror and used it in my old apartment. spray painted it gold and had a mirror cut for it. everyone loved it in my vintage powder room inspired bathroom. I used salmon colored walls and i used the same metallic spray paint on a lacey curtain which i used as a shower curtain (over shower doors)... it looked nice.

Seriously? i know we have a love/hate relationship with ikea but they have some extremely comparable sofas to the ones shown here at much better prices. im mean most of what is shown in this post are "style" couches and if its the style youre interested in then you should sleep on ikea IMO.

i bought the Mongstad mirror from IKEA for $99 USD http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/00081591 that is very similar if not better. And its one of Ikea sturdier-made products. I know they still sell it because i was just at my local ikea store a few days ago.
