When I was 13, my stepdad got a job offer which required us to move within 5 days. We'd never seen the house we were moving into 2 hours away.

When they said "master bedroom can fit a king mattress", they literally meant ONLY a king-size bed.

The house was such a mistake!

Actually, Carrotsticks, it allows input of raw foods. I don't eat half as much packaged food as I used to. And even though you'll never get 100% accurate figures, I find if you over-estimate, you'll do even better!

I started waking up a bit earlier so I could spend a little time cuddling with my kitty and dressing myself up a bit nicer than I usually do. The kitty cuddling has immensely improved my mood in the mornings, and dressing up nicer gives me a confidence boost all day!

I hate intentionally distressed furniture. I wish that trend would die.

Now that I live with my boyfriend (apartment), I am very confident that we'll be sleeping in separate bedrooms a lot when we buy a house. Also, it's a no-brainer for his & hers bathrooms; he's just too hairy and he can't keep the bathroom clean!

MSTAYLORLAUREN; be careful with tucking DVD/Bluray players and game consoles (especially) into poorly ventilated, tight storage areas. My Wii was toasted because of the lack of proper ventilation in my TV stand.

I really struggle to let go of items based on sentimental value.

For example: I have two scarves that I haven't worn in 8 years - but I keep them because they were the first things my grandmother ever knit, and she made them for me. In fact, 99% of my winter accessories have some sentimental attachment - but I don't use or even LIKE most of them now!

How do you get over the guilt of parting with something someone made you or bought for you, which has strong sentimental value even if the item is not functional or personally pleasing?

I'm actually very disappointed; I got more out of the Kitchn, Unpluggd and and Re-Nest than most of the main AT site.

I'm hoping the site drastically improved from what it is currently looking like.

Also, I'm with GINNIELIZZ - lose the TNR; what is this, Geocities in 1997?

I find we're really restricted in our apartment building. They've adopted a new property management company that has been making a lot of small changes and implemented a "you can't do anything" policy. They switched out our toilet and shower head with low-flow models (which was fine, I guess), but they've replaced all of the light fixtures with ugly, boring pieces. Now they're painting our balconies and there have been talks of replacing kitchen appliances, but we have no control.

The parquet floors? Buy a rug or deal with it. The wood panelling on all of the cupboards? Too bad. The awful bathroom tiles? Live with it. The non-adjustable thermostat/radiators and grey walls and everything else we've come to hate? Can't change anything.

Oh boy... The boyfriend is guilty of:

- Not wiping down/cleaning the bathroom counter top after shaving and leaving the shaving gel on the counter (this one drives me mad more than anything else!)
- Leaving garbage lying around, period. This includes: leaving empty plastic bottles around the apartment; leaving miscellaneous, unimportant receipts on the shelf instead of throwing them out/shredding; etc.
- Leaving used dishes wherever he finished eating; or, when he's brought them to the kitchen, not washing or even rinsing them (disgusting sour milk at the bottom of his cereal bowls, yuck!)
- Leaving banana peels in his lunch containers instead of throwing them out
- Not sweeping, ever, when it's "his chore"
- Instead of starting a load of laundry when the basket's full, keeps piling clothes on top until I cave and do 3 weeks' worth (giant laundry mountain)
- Not doing dishes when he sees the sink's full - will wait until I ask for help or just do it myself

Really, though, as much as these things grate on me, I've learned to bite my tongue and just deal. I know there are probably aspects of my personality (and/or habits) that he can't stand, so I don't want to start WWIII over a few household tasks I can take care of myself. My new motto is "It's bothering ME, so I should do something about it. C'est la vie!"

People seem really touchy about #8...
What's the issue? Presumably, your hands aren't covered in fecal matter upon entering the room with your device. So, you use it while you're doing your thing, then rest it somewhere (sink/floor), flush, wash hands, take electronic device with you when you leave.

Seriously, bathrooms can be so boring when you're in there a while. My bf takes upwards of 30 minutes on the can, regularly.

10 Wacky Tech Habits We're Totally Guilty Of

Hmm...

• Plastic wrap: Never use the stuff - reusable containers only!
• Plastic food bags: Same as above - reusable containers.
• Trash bags: I fail to see how this is at all possible, at least for myself. I live in an apartment building which doesn't allow for composting (the rest of the city's residents get to use "green bins" for compost collection). If all of my garbage was solid and self-contained, maybe, but our trash is filled with rotting food products. Ew.
• Paper towels: Cotton towels are better!
• Hair dryer: I used to agree before I wound up with a temperamental hairdo. 8/10 times, though, I'll let my hair air-dry.

• Microwave: I could go without, but it's just faster and more convenient.
• Coffee maker: I've never owned one.
• Dishwasher: I've never owned one.
• Television: Have one, but don't have cable ;) Only use it for movies and video games.
• Garbage disposal: I've never owned one.

Our kitchen is small and skinny...there's maybe a 7 foot stretch from the entryway to the doorway, and the room's maybe about as wide as my arm span - there's hardly room enough to think in there! The left hand wall is taken up by the oven/stove, tiny counter space/drawers and then the fridge with cupboards above everything. The right side is all cupboards on top, and a long cabinet and sink against the whole wall underneath. It's really a one-person kitchen :(

Curious about uggs, too! I've tried to hand-wash the boots with water and a sponge to avoid soaking them, but the salt stains come right back when they dry.

I hardly think anyone is "addicted" to using disposable grocery bags.

Mostly, it's a matter of convenience. I can't recall how many times I've thought, "Oh crap, I forgot the bags at home after taking them inside last week!" I don't shop often, and I'm not the owner or primary driver of our car, so the thought never occurs to me to take them back to the car.

Plus, I always end up reusing my bags as small apartment garbage bags. Is it very "green"? Not really. I use my reusables when I remember them, and don't stress over disposables.

SoSue - I've tried with one, and mine was either way too powerful or I went a bit longer than needed because the cream nearly turned to butter!

I've used a hand mixer with a whisk attachment and a Magic Bullet without issue, though :)

I only buy CFLs - begrudgingly, though. I was on the green bandwagon, supporting CFLs until I started to use them in main rooms. They're dimmer, and totally less warm. My bedroom felt like a hospital waiting room.

Our property manager just replaced all of the light fixtures, and switched out every bulb in the place with incandescent bulbs, so for now I get to use those until they die. I only buy CFLs for myself, but I'll be damned if I switch them out willingly before the incandescent bulbs die.

Hospital room. Ew.
