Gin & tonic was my college staple. My other "OC" would have to be a White Russian-- we mixed up batch after batch when rewatching the Big Lebowski.

Agreed, a little rum couldn't hurt.

Cooks Illustrated has a great vegetarian Indian menu-- it's a four course if I recall correctly. You can find it here (Vegetarian / Indian). You can probably do a free 14 day trial or google the recipes. We made all of the dishes in my cooking club and it was delicious. You could also pick and choose to suit her tastes.

I received an immersion blender for Christmas, so I've been asking these same questions. Mine has some cool attachments, so so far I've:

whipped up some egg whites
made a pesto with the chopper attachment
made butternut squash soup
made an individual smoothie without dirtying my whole blender

I'm excited to see what other people post here!

Does it come with a recipe book? How do you shrink down a "normal" ice cream recipe to make only a half pint?

infomofo-- I disagree! We have renters white walls and I have a couple decals up. Love them! Just go for colors you like or decals that incorporate more than one color.

I have some nature-y tree branches up that are two tone-- one color for the branch and one for the leaves.

Similarly, if this coat rack came in say, brown, I'd be all over it. Black might be a little harsh on my white walls.

I like them snappy. Cut some butter from the recipe and double the molasses-- and grate a TON of fresh ginger. Sometimes I add diced ginger to them too!

I store my cookie sheets -- and if we have baked goods (like a pie or a pan of brownies) they usually stay in there, too.

Nothing more than that though.

I just use salted butter and cut the salt from the recipe. I guess I've never known the difference, but things still turn out well.

lz256 -- I am doing the same thing and have done it before.

These boxes are free:

from USPS and I think mine are usually pretty reasonable to shop. I use the smaller square boxes. Each set of cookies goes into a cellophane bag and then those are wrapped in tissue paper.

You also might compliment your more delicate cookies with ones that travel well. I've never received any complaints though.

I've always loved huge family gatherings, but ours have never been chaotic... my mother is an AMAZING planner and my family are some of my favorite people and it's a good chance to see them since I live so far away!

I'm missing them this year and we will be four -- my SO and his mother and aunt, but I seem to be planning a meal for 25 as per usual. Oy!

I'm not sure I could handle the holiday alone! I'd probably cook all day anyway.

Our space is too small to rearrange! We're lucky to have it all in there with one layout -- I don't think there's another that would work!

I've been enjoying Newton's Folly -- a hard draft cider from Trader joes. They have a traditional or granny smith apple (delicious! link drinking a jolly rancher soda) and it's in a 12oz portion, so they're good with or after a meal. Or both.

How fun! I'd put wallpaper in the back of mine but you wouldn't be able to see it!

I bought two frames that fit inside the cubes, stretched some fabric across them, and attached them to two of the cubes with hinges:

I just can't seem to get rid of ALL of my clutter, and this allows me to hide a bit of it.

I cleaned out the fridge and freezer late Saturday night after a HUGE grocery trip. We just moved in in July, but it was nice to wipe down all the shelves!

The next step is the cabinets, which aren't dirty but have been arranged haphazardly since I've just been pushing things to the back as I think of new things I need.

How ripe do my pears have to be? I LOVE pears and their flavor, but I often toss them because they are ALL ripe on the same day and I can't eat them all!

This would be a great solution.
