i love the red and black ones, the purple one not so much. i imagine about 95% of the challenge of the red one is finding four tables that have the same dimensions unless you just buy four identical tables at ikea or something ... in which case you're going to pay a lot more than just buying a nice shelving unit.

Ha! I love the cultural divide in these comments: shock/horror vs. recipes. I'd rather be a free squirrel all my life and end up in a stew than a factory caged chicken.

looks cool, but i would be annoyed by all the dents in the bottoms of my books where they rested on the pipe.

This is a cool idea, but I also don't like the "nipple rings" and I think the contrast between the bottom stain and the top is too much. Plus, the stain on the first large drawer is too red. I think this would look fab if the drawers each had the same stain, but a shade or two darker going down, rather than different stains which does, like others have said, look like samples.

That's an overabundance of prison gray, IMO. Colored gravel instead, perhaps? Native flowering grasses?

I love the idea, but it's joined by zip ties?? So when you move the chair, I assume the two pieces slide around inside/around each other? Recipe for pinches and caught clothing. How much harder could it be to join them in a more solid and permanent way?

that would be amusing for about a week and then it would suck. in a month it'd be a box of dirt, grass can't possibly thrive indoors in a shallow box forever.

i like the quirky furniture, and i like the modern room, but they look completely unrelated. that wacky couch looks lost in that space.

@laurainalameda: leg mohawks! *dies laughing*

alot of that stuff IS silly, but apparently people find them useful ... i think there's something to be said, though, for finding a solution that's already on hand rather than buying a special one-use thing, i think that's the poster's point. like, if banana squishage is a regular problem for you, slice the banana into a tupperware you already own rather than buy a new banana cozy. (not that i'm picking on you banana people, just an example.)

or, dog feeling down because s/he can't enjoy a good faceoff with pedestrians? cut a hole in the fence and staple on a square of screen or chicken wire, you probably have some in the garage anyway.

that said, i'm sure i own something silly that only does one thing. everyone does. let's just laugh at ourselves. :)

i have a dryer, but i didn't use it all spring and summer, and most of the autumn until it began snowing. last winter i air dried all winter inside after converting an unused phone-booth sized shower stall into a drying rack by adding hanging rods. in the winter i still use the dryer for towels and big things because i don't have the room inside to hang them, but i'll hang clothes up. colorado is so dry that even in winter stuff will dry in a day.

really, this looks like you're cozying up to a pair of oversize cigarette lighters. $389 oversize cigarette lighters.

one word: candles.

the concept is awesome but the idea of standing/sitting on a glass floor is giving me a minor panic attack. imagine that on the 27th floor ... ACK!!!

well, that's rather silly, and an awful lot of resources to build a machine that does one thing. kind of defeats the purpose.

that IS pretty cool, i could see using something like that in the livingroom, where a regular fan might get in the way of tv or radio listening, but i'd still keep a traditional fan in the bedroom -- all summer i fall asleep to the white noise.

ha! that's what i was thinking. i do a thrift-store cleanout a couple times a year at most, and much of that is clothing my child has outgrown. still, a clothes swap is a cool idea; everyone has that nearly-new sweater from mom that you never really liked and barely wore...

these are lovely! i have DIY headboard that i made from large pieces of vintage wood i had in the garage and these cool printers blocks. i made an arrangement above my bed and stuck them to the wall with industrial strength velcro. looks great!

that soda bottle sprinkler is genius!

that freezer a/c might not be terribly efficient, but if you're hot enough, you'll try anything.
