"Both butter and lard contain a mix of saturated and unsaturated fat but lard is mostly unsaturated fat, the kind that is better for you, while butter is mostly saturated fat."

Are you serious? What decade are you stuck in? Read the latest info, saturated fat isn't "bad for you".

In my research for the website www.keepwhaleswild.org I did a lot of research on the treatment of whales and dolphins by humans and was repeatedly disgusted by what I found. It never ceases to amaze me how horrible that people can treat other sentient creatures and the lengths that some people go to justify horrible behaviour.

I love that jellyfish picture in the corner. And just how is a combination of 2 or 3 colours "pretentious"?

We do a swap at work and the only rules are *must be homemade*, must be a little fancier than just plain chocolate chip, and you make a half doz cookies per person that is on the Exchange list.

Maybe we're really lucky, but the cookies are always great and with that much selection, I don't have to bake anything else over the whole holiday.

To all the "get married before you have kids" comments... what century do you live in that you think that you have to have a piece of paper before you're "committed" to a relationship? Spending the money on a wedding doesn't make you any more committed to your spouse than just *being committed to them* does.

I like dresses on dress forms because they *look* displayed. Dresses on hangers look like you can't be bothered to put it away.

@lopsotronic: That is a great take on it! I could never understand why "dairy" was a group unto itself when there were other methods of getting your calcium out there. We should put tinned salmon/sardines in that section as well, maybe.

Uh, having NO meat or fish on the food pyramid would be ridiculous because millions of people include those as a healthy part of their diet.

Uh, I don't think I'd recommend to anyone to use a petroleum-based product on food. And just because people have injested it in the past doesn't really mean that it's "safe". Many makeup companies are looking at alternatives to petroleum-based ingredients in their products due to the fact that many of them are contributing causes to breast cancer.

I think that the food pyramid needs to get away from what the food producers want on it and more what *should* be on it.

Human's don't NEED to drink cow's milk, and there's an awful lot of dairy on there for a totally optional food group. I'd personally like to see less grains/carbs on the pyramid and more vegetables too. I think that our culture is way too carb-heavy. (no pun intended)

Unfortunately grains now aren't nearly the same as grains 20,000 years ago. And there are an assortment of types of paleolithic diets out there that involve much more sane eating patterns than the caveman style one listed.
