killer bedroom. By far the most interesting use of color and non specific items. touch trendy with the carpets and throws but really really love it. great palette. Love the mix of classics (case study bed, nelson lamps) and the found bedside tables etc.

i have been in my rental on haight street for 15 years. part of the back yard is what I have taken ownership of. we made a killer huge bench out of reclaimed wood from the salvage yard, large square cinder block bricks, some l brackets and some cargo straps. it's soooo great. leary to show pictures (wink)... dumb i know... but you get the dea. Just work craigslist, flea markets, garage sales, thrift stores. If you plant it all in containers you can/could take it with you. Bamboo is a great bang for the buck but it can go grow crazy all over the place. I would suggest field trips to sloat, flora grubb, home depot and then mix it all up to your taste. Ikea has some some OK outdoor stuff. Urban Ore in Berkeley is a great resource.

Also, look around your neighbors for quick tips on what grows well in your hood. use your camera to snap pictures so you can show the nursery folks what you are talking about. I have wasted plenty of money on plants that were wrong for my background.

have fun. get dirty.

yeah, great job boys... What came to mind is "money can't buy taste"... it might take longer when we can't throw money at it, but, slow and steady works for me just fine...

10 Simple Things to Make You
Happier At Home

Hi Amy,
that is a such a huge question. For me, painting a room is one of the best investments of our design dollars. I'm not afraid of color ( we must have a pink room for the pink themed house party?!?! ) and have made plenty of mistakes (yellow has way too many connections in the bathroom. ahem) but it's just paint and amazing things happen when it's right.

So, I say get creative as long as your willing to paint it back white when you move, your golden. Start by ruling out the primary colors that you know you don't want, them go exploring online and in magazines etc; then clip a few pics and go to your favorite store and buy the small samples around those colors. relax and have fun with it. paint a large enough spot on the wall (or a board or something ), let it dry and see what happens when the light changes. maybe asking such simple questions like; " would I like coming home to that wall? or does this make me feel happy, relaxed, content....

I'm leery, always leery to come of like an advise giving expert as color is sooooo personal and your going to have to live with. Do take inspiration in your favorite things-hawaiian shirt, vespa, coffee cup, vintage record player, a plant etc etc

How Should I Paint My New Apartment? Good Questions

i'm the sort of gay that would take clipping etc but its situational. just yestarday I checked out two huge magnolia branches that were fallen on Noe Street to see if they were interesting enough to drag home. turns out that they were just not very pretty but, these were fallen from a gust or whatever so they were especially guilt free.

this place is beautiful and agree that it is hard to picture with out seeing your pieces in the loft. I wouldn't be in too much of a hurry to make it come together; relax and enjoy the process of it coming together.

The first that comes to mind as I look at this is that I'm craving color. I also think it's easy to wave a wand and make your house look like a hotel or a showroom. make sure to personalize it in some interesting way and express yourself. As long as you love it then it works.

I think the trick with buying pieces for a loft is to make sure that the pieces you are buying look good from 3 or 4 angles so that you can change your mind and move them around. and I'm a sucker for gorgeous expensive furni and art it doesn't have to be.

But, if I were pulling out the stops on chairs, I really love the Paulistano chair http://tiny.cc/rDTUe.

atleast, this is my 2 cents.
