Rozewalker: I was in a similar situation for the first 5 months after my son was born. We lived in a (rather large) 1 BR, with the crib in our room, and I would wake up from every sound. At that age, it was mostly OK b/c I was still feeding him overnight. Here is my advice: invest in a Pack-n-Play (or similar) and set it up in your living room. Put baby to sleep in the crib in your room and when you are ready to go to sleep, transfer him to the Pack-n-Play. That is what we did and it was much better. Johnny Depp all the way (probably from Sassy). River Phoenix (RIP). I also loved Balthazar Getty circa "Lord of the Flies." Before that, Kirk Cameron (probably from Tiger Beat). Up until two years ago, I had a picture of Robert Downey, Jr., in my cubicle at work (from Esquire). Now, I have an old pic of The Beatles and trading cards of Elvis, The Beastie Boys (from "Yo! MTV Raps"), and Buffy, which I do not actually trade but was given. Oh, and my husband and son! Fess Up! Who Adorned Your Teen Walls? | Apartment Therapy Ohdeedoh |

We have the Antilop, too, in red. It was certainly well-priced, even with the tray and the little cushion for baby's back (which we stopped using after, like, one week). However, our son, who is now almost 11 mos. old, will climb right on out of it and would continue to climb across the table--even though we strap him in! Do others have this problem? Also: everyone else (not my husband and me) is always tripping on the legs b/c they splay outwards. Modern High ChairsRound Up | Apartment Therapy Ohdeedoh |

We wanted to limit the amount of plastic baby toys, too, but I would say that 99% of our son's toys were purchased by other people. If you really don't want plastic, make that abundantly clear to your family members. Environmentally Friendly Baby Toys Good Questions | Apartment Therapy Ohdeedoh#comments |

I agree with LSwanson on putting baby to sleep in the Pack and Play when you go to sleep. We were in a 1 BR with our infant son's crib in our room and the Pack and Play in the living room until he was five months old. When he was sleeping in the crib, I could not sleep b/c I would wake up with every little noise and snuffle. We started putting him to bed in the crib and then, when we were ready to go to sleep, moving him to the Pack and Play. He did not wake up during this transition (we turned off all of the lights). When he did wake up a few hours later, it was b/c he was hungry and I would feed him. Sleep Issues in a Shared Bedroom Good Questions | Apartment Therapy Ohdeedoh |

my sister, brother, and i were never allowed to open presents in front of all the guests when we were growing up, mostly because my mother thought it was inappropriate for some of the reasons mentioned above. also, she didn't want people comparing gifts. we always wrote thank-you notes promptly after the party. usually, after the guests left, we opened presents with any family members who were at the party, including cousins around our age, so there were still people around, just not our friends. my son is only 4 months old so we have awhile before we have to deal with this, but i will probably do what my mother did, and for the same reasons. no one wants to feel that their gift is inferior or disliked. There was a componobile in my brother's bathroom when I was growing up and my mother bought them again as end tables more recently, as did my husband and me. We love them, and since our bedroom = baby's nursery right now, they blend right in. I highly recommend them! Apartment Therapy ohdeedoh | Componibili Storage Bins in the Nursery |
