I've stayed at the Hotel of Rivington a few times and the black bathrooms are definitely visually striking but a practical nightmare. In combination with weak lighting it's impossible to see yourself in the mirror, get ready, put on makeup, etc. and a triumph of style over substance.

Does anyone know where the long piece of art listing place names and hung behind the sofa is from? Or is this a piece of Kara and Ken's own work? I'm sure it probably doesn't mean much to a lot of people but it's a list of locations in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, where I was an undergraduate. Is it available to buy anywhere? It brings back memories and I love it!

I've stayed at The Pod as well, and I too avoided the communal bathrooms. Too much like student days for me.

One tip I would give anyone thinking of staying there: the higher density accommodation and younger age of the clientele can mean it's not the quietest place in town. If you're a light sleeper, take ear plugs!

You can get very similar grey sheets in the UK in Muji (including kingsize), but I found they aren't very hardwearing. I bought mine in the January sales and the fitted sheets are already quite pilled.
