Definitely public trans. I've lived without a car for about ten years, then suddenly had to drive two hours a day. Before I knew it, or put two and two together, I was hitting up every stress-relief how-to I could get my hands on. Now I'm about to move to the suburbs and I'm dreading it.

I love when people tell me how dangerous public trans is. In thirty years of using public trans in one capacity or another, I've seen a gold chain stolen and been flashed a couple of times. On the other hand I've seen countless car accidents and known several people who have been seriously injured in them. To me, there is no comparison.

I love you all and I'm glad that this hasn't degenerated into a tip/no tip argument because I'm right about that one and cannot deal with insubordination!!!

No, really it's totally easy to do a tip in your head. I wouldn't have believed it either but it really is. Just move the dingdang decimal over and double it!

Like this:

Your bill is $125.26:

Round up to $130. You are a human and they are not getting minimum wage. Move the decimal over one to the left. 13!

You tip:13 x 2: 26

$26 Done.

You are so much smarter than you ever knew.

Dropped my iPod between the elevator lip and the floor. It dropped seventeen floors and three subbasements. The crazy thing was that it only had a little dent and worked three more days.

I live in Chicago. I use the 4G puck thingy. Though it's failed through some tonier neighborhoods, it works through ninety-five percent of my life and I wouldn't give it up for all the world.

I stream movies at work. There. Confessed.

One of my old regulars had a laminated sign next to her landline that read, "If you've been drinking, do not use."

I find that making deals with yourself ahead of the time when a drunken decision might be made is best. Make a promise to yourself like "I will not comment on any website ever ever ever if I've been drinking." Therefore, at one in the morning and faced with a potential flame war, remember, When I was sober and made sense, I promised I wouldn't do this. I can comment tomorrow if it still seems urgent.

Debacle avoided.

That's seriously awesome. My new obsession is succulents too.

I've recently given up smoking and have a large collection of ashtrays stolen from wonderful places. I was thinking of turning them into succulent planters. Do you think it would work, or are they too shallow?

Do a search for Ferry Halim. He has three apps, Winter Bells, Sunny Day Sky and Flight of Fire that will knock you down with their style.

I've got four of the silicone ice cube trays and have had them for two years. I would never go back to regular trays and feel massively inconvenienced at other people's houses, almost as much as they feel at ours! (Push the ice cubes out from the bottom, no it's not obvious)

My grandmother had the stainless steel ones and I never did learn how to use them without getting half of the cubes all over the place.

Leave them alone unless you're planning on having a baby soon. You need them to babyproof.

On the other hand, it does take toddlers a long time to figure out how to open a door without a handle.

You can put a lock on your kids' volume levels on their iPods. It's in your settings. Set it at a reasonable level, put a password on it and worry no more.

To tell you the truth, the neighborhoods to the east of Midway can be a little dodgy (not all, but best not to guess). You're better off stopping somewhere on the way or letting her run around inside the airport.

This page has an overview of exhibits in some of the less-populated parts of the airport.

If you have more time, you can drive over to Hyde Park and see some sites.

I have a 2 year old so my apps have to be a little more visual and less cerebral, so don't judge.

Gloop: It's like a lava lamp, but you control the lava.

Uncolor: It uncovers a picture as your child wipes.

Petit Dummy: By far the creepiest and the most intriguing-place a mouth on a picture and the mouth will sing to you. Pay a little and you can put the mouth on any picture. Pay a little more and you can use your own audio. If you have an iPhone or a microphone, it'll mouth whatever you say into it. Just plain fun.

Meowmania: Creepy meowing cats appear under your child's fingers.

iXylophone: Like Virtuoso, but with a xylophone.

Look Baby!: Stop crying and start popping bubbles.

A few things:

1. Get the longest corkscrew you can get. I only see the really good ones about once a year. If you see a good one, snatch it up!

2. Screw it in all the way. This way you're not leaving any cork on the end to break off.

3. Hold the lever to the edge of the bottle with your non-pulling hand and it won't slip off/bite. Also, you won't get a gauche pop sound as the cork comes out, because you can control the speed.

4. Don't be embarrassed to spin the bottle under the corkscrew the first few times. It may help you to set the screw dead center and straight into the cork.
