I think the Shaker aesthetic is particularly beautiful. However, it isn't really followed here. Everything should have a purpose. In this space the large nearly empty shelving unit doesn't follow that maxim. Minimalism is hard to pull off. Because there are very few items in the space, everything must be especially beautiful and placed very carefully in relationship. I have lived in a small town in Kansas for the past ten years and hated it. Family obligations brought me here. I'm moving as soon as possible since those obligations have ceased. If you are a city person you'll hate a small, conservative town. Trust me! City or Country: Nothing in Between! |

I've been without cable for about five years. It just wasn't worth it even though I live in such a rural location I can't get any tv reception at all without cable. I never watched ESPN or QLC or most of the other channels in the basic package. I have a Netflix streaming subscription and HuluPlus for my Roku box (the cheapest one connected to my tiny flat screen) and iPad. Some shows I can only get on my laptop. In case someone is keeping track, put me down for bar soap (less packaging, vegan options, cheaper), top sheet plus duvet in cover (wash the equivalent of one sheet rather than two, fading issues, hate to wrestle them on and off -- I'm short it's hard), regular size towels (dry faster). I keep my central air at 80 in hot months and my furnace at 64 during the day, 60 at night in cold months. I live in Kansas and can't open my windows due to severe allergies.
